For this week’s entry in Monday Mods, our weekly column cataloging some of the best mod available for PC games, we’re taking a look at a long-running mod that has just had its final release, before the creator moves on to their next project.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project is a huge scale project, adding upgraded assets like all new models and textures to CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3. This lets players on PC enjoy an upgraded graphical experience, with reworked environments, structures, and character models. The original game was already a looker, with a huge scale world crafted with a lot of care and effort, but this new mod helps to bump up the quality of a few aspects that perhaps needed a little more attention, especially when viewed on modern high-resolution monitors.

After years of working on this mod, and millions of downloads, the final completed version is now available. You can grab it over on Nexus Mods.

Unlike some graphical overhaul mods, this is designed with the intent of being as faithful to the art style of the original game as possible, not altering the tone or feel of the original game, just enhancing what is already there.

What’s perhaps especially interesting about this latest release is that the mod creator, HalkHoganPL, has said that this is the final update that will be released of this mod, but that “HD Reworked Project is coming for next-gen Witcher 3 in 2021”. It’s not unheard of for developers to hire people who worked on mods to work on their projects in house, and we already heard about the major update that is going to be released for The Witcher 3 in 2021, including new graphical features and giving the game a visual overhaul. It could be that either this mod is going to be repacked for the big Witcher update coming next year, or if we were to engage in a little speculation, perhaps this is a hint that HalkHoganPL has been hired by CD Projekt Red to work on the upcoming update for The Witcher 3? He does appear to already be based in Poland.
