Mortal Kombat 11 has recently arrived on Xbox Game Pass, opening up the brutally brilliant fighting game to a whole new audience who might never have tried it before. But can you play with your friends who are playing on a PC / Xbox or PlayStation, or even the wholesome Nintendo Switch let’s find out?

Is Mortal Kombat 11 CrossPlay?

No, it isn’t Well yes it is. Or it kinda depends. And that is a total pain in the backside. You see MK11 is only crossplay (or Krossplay, as it’s known as everything with a C, needs to be swapped out with a K in the world of Mortal Kombat of course) on certain platforms. Which by my reckoning means we should classify it as not being. If you are a PlayStation or Xbox player you can play not only cross-platform but cross-generation.

If you are a PC or Switch player, yeah this isn’t for you which is pretty annoying as it reduces the player base quite dramatically and that could be an issue, certainly as the game gets older.

It’s also a strange choice. The net code is obviously more or less there so the active decision to exclude the “lesser” number of players is an odd one to us. Even if you think ‘the PC is full of hackers and cheats so let’s not go there,’ doesn’t really explain the lack on the Nintendo console, which is hardly known as a stronghold of nefarious game hacking.

Still, that’s the position we find ourselves in and it is very unlikely to ever change, so all we can do is moan and complain and hope that Mortal Kombat 12 doesn’t make the same choices when it finally gets released.
