MSI Launches Optix MAG251RX Esports IPS Gaming Monitor

MSI has unveiled the Optix MAG251RX, a new Fast IPS panel-fitted gaming LCD monitor aimed firmly at the esports market. In fact, MSI is touting the monitor as ‘the new esports Meta,’ tailored for pro esports tournaments.

Key features include a 24.5-inch 8-bit+FRC IPS panel, 240 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms GtG response time, 16:9 aspect ratio, and 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The MSI Optix MAG251RX also boasts a brightness of 400 nits, 178-degree viewing angles both vertically and horizontally, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, a pixel density of 90 PPI, support for NVIDIA G-sync and VESA Adaptive-Sync, and carries VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification.

As MSI’s first Fast IPS panel, the Optix MAG251RX hits the mark in terms of color gamut with 107% sRGB, 84% DCI-P3, and 1.07 billion colors, placing it above other monitors in the same category. It also features ultra-narrow bezels making it ideal for multi-monitor setups.

As for connectivity, we’re looking at one DisplayPort 1.2, two HDMI 2.0, and, rather uncommonly for gaming monitors, one USB Type-C port, as well as a USB port hub with three USB 2.0 Type-A and one USB 2.0 Type-B. There’s also one audio headphone output.

MSI has gone all in to make the stand as adaptable as possible with tilt adjustments between 5 and 20 degrees and raising adjustments from 0 to 130 mm. The monitor stand also has built-in cable management.

MSI is also throwing in the smart Night Vision black tuner, MSI Mystic Light-compatible customizable RGB LEDs, seven different gaming modes (RPG, FPS, RTS, etc.), anti-flicker technology for those long gaming sessions, and the Gaming OSD App 2.0 for on the fly setting swaps via keyboard, mouse, and programmable hotkeys.

The MSI Optix MAG251RX is available to buy right away through the usual gaming hardware retailers like Amazon for a retail price of $359.99.
