Once again, it’s around that time of year when the big sporting titles start to emerge for the new season.
With Madden 23 already available to play since August 19th and FIFA 23 set to come out later next month, NBA 2K23 is next in line to be released and there’s plenty to be excited about.
NBA 2K22 had a mixed bag of reviews right from the start, with some in the community saying there was a lack of diversity and a seemingly large amount of in-game exploits.
Fans will hope that the developers offer more in this latest edition than the usual roster changes, updated graphics, and new animations.
The NBA 2K23 release date has been confirmed for Friday, September 9th, 2022.
It looks as though NBA 2K23 on the PC platform is still going to be the previous-gen version.
The PC and Nintendo Switch platforms won’t receive the next-gen upgrades we see on the Xbox Series X and PS5 version.

NBA 2K23 release date
The official NBA 2K23 release date has been confirmed for Friday, September 9th, 2022.
The last five NBA titles (NBA 2K18, 2K19, 2K20, 2K21, & 2K22) were all released in the first half of September.
- NBA 2K18 release date: 15 September 2017
- NBA 2K19 release date: 7 September 2018
- NBA 2K20 release date: 5 September 2019
- NBA 2K21 release date: 4 September 2020
- NBA 2K22 release date: 10 September 2021
NBA 2K23 pre-order date & rewards
NBA 2K23 pre-orders have been available since the 7th of July for the following editions:

Last year, we saw pre-orders for NBA 2K22 start as early as July, and this year is no different. Pre-orders for the game are now open.

WNBA Edition

In addition, 2K announced that there will be a WNBA 2K23 Edition, with Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird on the cover of the new game. The pair have won 7 championships and 10 gold medals between them.
Pre-orders for all NBA 2K23 Editions have begun, and 2K is going to donate $100,000 to @everykidsports to increase access to youth basketball programs for over 550 girls from income-restricted families.
NBA 2K23 cover athlete revealed – Michael Jordan
NBA 2K23 game developers 2K announced that Michael Jordan was returning to the cover of their upcoming title.
Jordan returns, marking his fourth cover feature, after previously appearing on NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12, and the NBA 2K16 Special Edition.
It is hardly surprising to see one of the biggest names in Basketball history named as the cover athlete and 2K stated that the Hall of Famer will take both the NBA 2K23 Michael Jordan Edition and the Championship Edition.
Is NBA 2K23 out?
Not yet. The official release date for NBA 2K23 is September 9, 2022.
There was a form of early access for NBA 2K22 when pre-ordered. However, there will be none available for this year’s edition.
Can I pre-order NBA 2K23?
Pre-orders for NBA 2K23 have been active and available since July 7th, 2022.
Is NBA 2K23 cross-platform?
NBA 2K23 is cross-platform and will launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam).
Just like NBA 2K22, NBA 2K23 will not feature crossplay between different consoles or PC. That said, Cross-Progression and Shared VC Wallet in MyTEAM will be featured across generations of consoles from the same console family.
What’s left to be revealed before launch?
Per NBA2K’s Twitter account, several reveals have transpired throughout the month of August. With the Gameplay Trailer, Jordan Challenge, MyNBA, and MyTEAM news all already covered, the remaining announcements left to be made will take place on the following days listed above before the September 9th release date.
Footage has now been seen of the official reveal event for celebrities that 2K hosted in Las Vegas. The 2K23 House of Greatness showed quick glimpses of people playing the game. There are a few short snippets of the game itself.
