Developer Rogue Factor and publisher Focus Home Interactive announced today that the upcoming Necromunda: Underhive Wars is releasing on September 8th for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A new trailer is now out to mark the occasion, showcasing Necromunda: Underhive Wars gameplay for the very first time. You can check it out right below.

Drawing inspiration from Games Workshop tabletop staple Necromunda and firmly set in Warhammer 40,000 Universe, Necromunda: Underhive Wars can be best described as a third-person turn-based strategy skirmish game. The player controls a seedy criminal gang operating in the shadows of Necromunda’s forced-labor hives as they vie for honor and wealth.

Before jumping into battle, players can choose five active fighters among a pool of fifteen, each with their own set of stats, skills, and equipment. The player can pick a squad suited to the situation at hand by freely rotating through their roster of fighters to find specific character combinations and synergies. Confrontations between gangs feature rounds, during which each fighter has a chance to unleash an attack, seek cover, and move and perform actions across sizable battlefields where verticality is a core consideration chiefly due to a height advantage mechanic.

Necromunda: Underhive Wars features multiple online and offline game modes, including a fleshed-out 15-mission narrative campaign that follows the story of three rival gangs and the colorful characters that make up their ranks as they seek out a long-lost treasure hidden in the depths of the Underhive. Other modes include Operations, an ‘endlessly replayable single-player gameplay loop’, and Online Skirmish, where players can test their skills against other players. For more details, head here.

Here’s what Rogue Factor are saying about Necromunda: Underhive Wars:

”Deep below the nightmarish, polluted hive cities of Necromunda, in the twisted, vertiginous, dark tunnels of the Underhive, rival gangs fight to the bitter end for personal power, wealth, survival and the honour of their Houses. Only the strongest survive.
Lead, customize, and grow your gangs of Escher, Goliath, and Orlock. Specialize each member and send them to battle in hazardous dystopian environments. Exploit the terrain in tactical gunfights: climb raised walkways to take advantage, set traps, and ambush foes to force them into bloody melee engagements. Learn new skills, loot equipment and bring your evolved gang to 4-player online gang fights.”

And, some features:

  •  Lead and evolve your gangs in this compelling tactical-RPG
  • Follow a rich narrative campaign in the Underhive
  • Engage in immersive and persistent game modes
  • First video game adaptation from mythical tabletop game Necromunda, the most famous Hive World of Warhammer 40,000
  • Play solo or join thrilling 4-way online gang fights

For a game arriving in a little over a month, we’ve seen very little of how Necromunda: Underhive Wars will look from the player’s perspective. Fortunately, Publisher Focus says it plans to release a lot more gameplay footage in the weeks leading up to release early next month.

You can pre-order Necromunda: Underhive Wars on Steam for 20% off at the moment, which brings the price down to £27.99/$31.99/€31.99.
