WB Games Preparing to Announce New DC Comics Game This August

WB Games has announced that it will feature during the DC Universe FanDome event in August, prompting speculation that the publisher will reveal a new DC-themed game.

Touted as a 24-hour ‘global virtual experience, “FanDome is penciled in for August 22nd at 10 am PDT, and will ‘explore every corner of the DC Multiverse.”

In a press release authored for the announcement, DC Comics explains, “the global event will immerse fans into the DC Multiverse, with new announcements from WB Games, Film and TV, and comics, as well as an unprecedented opportunity to hear from the casts and creators behind your favorite feature films and TV series.” The event is, unsurprisingly, a digital one due to the ongoing pandemic.

It’s unclear precisely what WB Games is preparing to announce, but there’s certainly no lack of rumors. In particular, rumblings of a new entry in the Batman: Arkham have circulated far and wide in recent years, egged on by multiple teases from WB Montreal. The studio is expected to helm the project. These hints imply the next Arkham title will explore the villainous contingent of the Court of Owls, which features characters recently incorporated into the Batman universe.

Aside from WB Montreal, all eyes will be on developer Rocksteady and its next project. The studio is responsible for Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight titles, and has been working on something since the last of these launched in 2015. Grapevine rumblings suggest the studio will be bringing another DC heavyweight to the medium of video games, which we already know won’t be Superman. But, as to who might be the focus of the studio’s next game, there’s little news other than speculative takes from fans.

In other news, WB Games is reportedly up for grabs as owner AT&T is looking to sell its gaming division. Reports suggest there’s interest from Microsoft.
