A Chinese publication has rumored that only the AMD Radeon 8000 series will appear at CES 2025 and we can expect the RX 7650 GRE for launch early next year.
Previously, we assumed that the upcoming RX 7650 GRE would be announced at CES 2025 as the last RDNA 3 GPU. However, Benchlife.info claims that the upcoming CES 2025 event in Las Vegas will only feature the next-gen RX 8000 series. The RX 7650 GRE is planned in for a 2025 release but is now expected in the first quarter of the year (or by the end of March) and will be exclusive to China.
AMD Radeon RX 7650 GRE to come after RX 8000 series
AMD’s RX 8000 series will be based on the RDNA 4 GPU architecture and it makes sense that AMD would want the focus at CES 2025 to be on the newer models. For those unaware, the RX 7650 GRE is part of the Golden Rabit Edition and will be the last RDNA 3-based GPU.
Originally, we thought AMD might introduce something different to the market and launch the RX 7650 GRE with a cut-down NAVI 32-based GPU. However, citing its source, Benchlife.info has shared that the RX 7650 GRE will only be introduced to clear inventory of AMD’s Navi 33-based GPUs, the RX 7600 and RX 7600 XT – similarly seen with the RX 6750 GRE for the 6700 and 6700 XT.
What to expect from the AMD Radeon RX 7650 GRE?
Benchlife.info mentioned that it’s still uncertain whether the rebranded GPU will be more similar to the RX 7600 or the RX 7600 XT. Both GPUs feature NAVI 33 chips and offer similar clock speeds, with the only difference being VRAM: the RX 7600 has 8 GB, while the RX 7600 XT comes with 16 GB. Given the minimal difference between the 7600 series models, it will be interesting to see what AMD brings with the RX 7650 GRE. The price point will likely be the main focus, so AMD might introduce something similar to the RTX 3060 12GB – a budget-friendly GPU with 16 GB of VRAM. However, it would need to offer a significant price advantage, as the RX 7600 XT 16 GB would still be a better option.
As for the clock speed, that remains a significant question, especially for gamers, but we don’t expect it to be higher than that of the RX 7600 series. Since there’s only a 100 MHz difference between those two models, it likely won’t matter much where the RX 7650 GRE falls within that range. That said, the RX 7650 GRE will be exclusive to the Chinese market, which differs from our initial expectations of AMD’s plans to expand its products to other markets.
