At the Nintendo Direct on September 23, it was announced that Nintendo 54 and Sega Genesis games were coming on the Nintendo Switch Online app for any current subscribers. You’ll need to have a Nintendo Switch Online account for these games, and it has been dubbed an “expansion pack” by Nintendo themselves, meaning that you’ll have to pay an additional fee to get access to the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis virtual console. While it was heavily leaked beforehand, as we have previously reported, it’s still nice to see Nintendo give some love to those who like to dabble in retro gaming from time to time. Though this is no replacement for a full-fat virtual console on Nintendo Switch.

Right now, Nintendo has teased that the following will be landing on the “Expansion Pack” for Nintendo Switch Online.

  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Star Fox 64
  • Sin and Punishment
  • Dr. Mario 64
  • Mario Tennis 64
  • WinBack
  • Yoshi’s Story

However, that’s not all. Like the SNES and NES games available on Nintendo Switch Online before it, these games will be released over time, and Nintendo has already let us know exactly what to expect from the other Nintendo 64 titles we can expect to see in the future, including the following titles.

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Pokémon Snap
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
  • Mario Golf
  • Paper Mario
  • F-Zero X

The Nintendo 64 wireless controller for Nintendo Switch has no details for pre order just yet, but we do know that it will retail for $49.99 USD. Nintendo has also treated us with yet another update to a classic controller coming to Nintendo Switch. This has also been heavily leaked beforehand, with patent leaks letting us know that the controller (or the HAC043) may be landing fairly soon. It uses wireless Bluetooth to connect, so it’s likely that the wireless Nintendo 64 controller can also be used alongside anything that also supports the Switch Pro Controller as an input device. For all those emulation heads out there, it’ll be an easy winner.
