With a number of Super Mario-themed sets already behind them, Nintendo and Lego have come together to create what looks to be the best one yet. The Lego Super Mario 64 ? Block is a 2064-piece set based on the classic N64 platformer (first released back in 1996). Essentially it’s a Lego ? cube, which folds out to display Princess Peach’s Castle (aka Mushroom Castle) and customizable dioramas of classic Super Mario 64 levels, namely ‘Bob-omb Battlefield’, ‘Cool, Cool Mountain’ and ‘Lethal Lava Trouble’.

The Super Mario 64 Lego ? Block set is a few steps down in terms of scale from the rather more chunkier sets in the Lego Super Mario series, being microfigure-size in scale. This means there are no Mario minifigures, sadly. Check out the video below to see how Mario and Peach have been squished down to a size that is barely recognisable.

Despite the extreme miniaturization going on, having a “best of” building set based around one of the greatest games of all time has already got us counting up our small change for a future purchase. With a $180 price tag (£160/€170), we might have just enough time to scrape together enough pennies to afford the Lego Super Mario 64 ? Block when it becomes available from and Lego stores worldwide from October 1. For those that need a little longer to save up, the Lego Super Mario 64 Block set will go on general release next year.

Sadly, there’s no Lego Mario 64 game on the horizon, but we recently rated all the Lego games in order of preference. Check ‘em out.
