If you were hoping to grab an RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 at launch, you’re already out of luck. Nvidia’s latest flagship GPUs went live today, but within minutes, they were completely sold out at major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg.
Buyers flooded online stores as soon as listings appeared, but the overwhelming demand meant stock disappeared almost instantly. Many customers reported checkout errors, site crashes, and listings showing “out of stock” before finalising their purchase. This level of demand was expected, but the speed at which both GPUs sold out took even seasoned PC builders by surprise.

Nvidia’s website crashed briefly upon the launch of the 50 series, leading to many people missing out on a Founders Edition GPU.
RTX 5080 and RTX 5090: Why the rush?
The RTX 50-series was first revealed at CES 2025, with the RTX 5090 leading the charge as Nvidia’s most powerful gaming GPU to date. Featuring next-generation Blackwell architecture, significantly higher CUDA core counts, and GDDR7 memory, the RTX 5090 will always be a hot item for enthusiasts. The RTX 5080, positioned as the high-performance yet slightly more affordable option, also drew massive interest with its strong 4K gaming capabilities.
With such impressive specifications and performance leaps over the RTX 40-series, it’s no surprise that both GPUs were in high demand. However, Nvidia had already hinted at a limited launch supply, making availability a serious concern from day one.
Scalpers and high prices are incoming
As expected, scalpers wasted no time listing the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 on third-party marketplaces at eye-watering markups. Some eBay listings have already surfaced with prices exceeding $2,500, far above Nvidia’s official MSRP. This isn’t the first time a major GPU release has been plagued by scalping, but it’s another frustration for gamers who just want to upgrade their rigs.
When will the RTX 5080 and 5090 restock?
Right now, there’s no official word on when the next batch will arrive. Historically, GPU restocks have been inconsistent, with sporadic availability in the first few months. Retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg may receive additional stock, but competition will remain fierce.
