The Nvidia 3080 Super has been leaked, like the original Ampere cards before it. Though many people can’t quite get their hands on an RTX 30 series card yet, NVIDIA appears to be preparing to launch a whole new line of Graphics Cards, chip shortage be damned.
These leaks come in the form of two different sources, one is a large company, the other is one of the usual suspects when it comes to somewhat less so. Regardless, it was inevitable that the Taiwanese corporation was going to release a new line of graphics cards, but it could spell disaster for many consumers in waiting lists for older cards, as new ones may appear for pre-order very soon. It’s likely that these new cards will be positioned between the original 3000 series and their “Ti” counterparts, with the original boards being replaced in favor of the Super cards, as seen with the 2000 series cards before it. However, how much does Ampere still have to give as a chip architecture?
HP accidentally leaks RTX 3080 Super
Yep, the big 3080 Super leak wasn’t from anyone with a funny name and avatar on Twitter, it was instead from HP. On their landing page for the 34-inch ENVY AIO PC, HP accidentally made mention of the RTX 3080 Super, by mentioning that you could potentially spec out your shiny-new AIO PC with the unannounced GPU. However, hold your horses for a second. Judging from HP’s other all-in-one computers, it seems as if that their all-in-one computers use similar configurations to laptops, so they’re not quite cramming a full desktop-class graphics card in there yet. However, it does tell us that it’s looking more than likely that we’re going to see a follow-up for the extremely well-regarded (and difficult to find) Ampere architecture is going to get a little more life out of it in the form of new chips. Hopefully, the mobile version of the leaked RTX 3080 Super holds up slightly better than the original 3080, which has been heavily scrutinised in the months since its release. However, it appears as if HP has noticed the slip-up, and have since updated the page to say that it only supports the standard RTX 3080. Regardless, this is an incredibly solid indication that we’re going to potentially see another RTX 3080 Super leak in the future.
RTX 30 Super series specifications allegedly leak
It doesn’t stop at HP with the RTX 30 Super leaks, this time we’ve got veteran leaker, Kopite7kimi summarising some of the new models due to be released. Unlike HP, this time we’re going to be seeing some of the full-fat desktop graphics cards if the leaked specifications are to be believed. In the past, Kopite7kimi has been pretty on the ball with their NVIDIA leaks, so we’re not expecting these specs to be too far off the actual ones we’ll be seeing upon release. The alleged specifications for the upcoming RTX 30 series are as follows.
- RTX 3060 Super: 44 SMs, 5,632 CUDA Cores, 12GB GDDR6 memory, 192-bit memory bus
- RTX 3070 Super: 46 SMS, 5,888 CUDA Cores, 8GB GDDR6X memory, 256-bit memory bus
- RTX 3080 Super: 70 SMs, 8,960 CUDA Cores, 12GB GDDR6X memory, 384-bit memory bus
- RTX 3090 Super: 84 SMs, 10,752 CUDA Cores, 24GB GDDR6X memory, 384-bit memory bus
Do take these specifications with a pinch of salt, as NVIDIA still have yet to officially announce this series of cards. Due to external factors outside of the chip shortage, it’s possible that we might be a more steady supply of graphics cards. But, don’t hold your breath, especially if there are potentially brand-new cards to purchase.
