It isn’t just RDNA 3 GPUs to get excited about following AMD’s event, thankfully we’ve also seen some exciting reveals to take that smooth gaming experience to the next level with new high-end displays and highly-anticipated DisplayPort 2.1 technology news.

So, AMD’s presentation last night basically dropped a ton of exciting announcements for us to delve into. So let’s talk about how Samsung is involved. Big news for any gaming monitor enthusiasts.

Samsung expand Odyssey gaming line-up with new “8K” ultrawide monitor

It’s no secret that everyone was (understandably) impressed the release of the Odyssey Neo G9 back in 2021. Samsung delivered a truly smooth ultrawide gaming experience which felt like it couldn’t really be topped for some time.

Well, just over a year later, we’re excited by the news of a new advancement – a mighty 8K resolution upgrade to move their Odyssey gaming monitor range on to it’s next chapter. Currently, one of the details we do know about this particular display is regarding it’s DisplayPort 2.1 compatibility.

Should I buy an 8K monitor?

For true enthusiasts, it only makes sense to make the next step up and jump at the chance of a premium 8K resolution gaming monitor.

Perhaps the first thing you need to take into account is the price you’ll be expected to pay. The Neo G9 first released at $2500, so we can only recommend saving those bucks now if you’re serious about an upgrade in 2024.

If you’ve been using a 4K monitor for gaming, then you will understand the luxury that the added resolution brings you, especially when you got your hands on it for the first time. If we’re sticking to a 32:9 aspect ratio, that implies that it won’t deliver a “true” 8K resolution, but we’ll be seeing a hefty upgrade nevertheless.

Obviously it’s early days and we’ll have to see what Samsung can deliver once we roll over into 2023, especially since AMD will be announcing even more details during CES 2023 in January. Lots of exciting things are just on the horizon!
