$200-ish dollars for 1TB of space is criminal, but to get those speeds and use those new Xbox Series X and S features, you need to have the right storage. Seagate was first, offering a 1TB memory card – which uses CF Express, notoriously expensive in the photography and video world – that slots into the back of the machine and does what it says on the tin. You can install the latest games and still get those blazing speeds that the manufacturers keep yelling about in marketing press releases.
However, the cost is just too much to justify something to store – essentially – very few games on. Xbox One games and from prior generations can sit happily on a large HDD, while you save the storage space on the console for the incoming Halos and Forzas. So obviously to squeeze into the gap they left, Seagate is also going to be offering a 512GB expansion card and a ‘Game Drive for Xbox SSD’ (someone at Microsoft needs to fix their naming structure).

According to the tip-off to Windows Central, they could be landing just before Christmas, just in time for families to go out and buy one for the ludicrous size of some of these modern video games.
Seriously parents, with it all coming up, unbox and set up those consoles the week before. No kid wants to sit downloading on Christmas day. Or waiting till day eight of Hanukka.

The external SSD won’t support current-generation games like Halo Infinite but should be more than enough to give you an extra dose of speed and reliability than an HDD over the coming years.
With them, not officially announced, these don’t have any prices, but I’d suspect around $150 for the Expansion Card (CF is so expensive) and $100 for the 1TB SSD.
