Sega Planning More Remakes & Remasters
Sega has stated in a financial report that it is planning a “significant increase in titles”, including games that it describes as “remake/remaster, spin-off or change of theme”.
More Sega Games Like Sonic Origins?
In the financial report, Sega has predicted that it will sell around five million games falling into the category of remakes. The aforementioned category includes the recently announced Sonic Origins, which sparked backlash from fans due to a pre-order chart that was floating around the internet.
Sonic Origins is a collection of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. As well as featuring some of the IPS move-beloved games, it’ll feature new animation and gameplay tweaks. Since this backlash, Sega hasn’t yet said anything regarding Sonic Origins. There’s also been a fair amount of backlash due to the pricing of the game. Since every single game included in the collection is from multiple generations ago, many fans expected a much lower MSRP.
Potential Future Sega Releases
In terms of general games discussed in the financial report, Sega states that seven titles released in the last financial year that launched simultaneously and globally, causing six million total sales. The company predicts that it will more than double this number in 2023. Sega is expecting 13 million sales due to an increased number of global launches and games launching in general.
Bloomberg reported last month that Sega is looking to reboot Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. Although, the company is unlikely to have included them in the forecasts for the coming fiscal year. Both of those games are currently targeting release dates of either 2024 or 2025.
