Sennheiser Momentum 4 design confirmed

Just hours ago, Canada Computers, a popular retailer accidentally leaked their product listing for the Sennheiser Momentum 4, showing the design in its entirety and the launch price.

Sennheiser momentum 4 release date 1

As we can see from the image above, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless headphones look premium as hell, with an earcup pivot that looks similar to that of the Sony WH-1000XM5.

This is then followed by an old-school earcup tilt, both of these points of articulation combine to allow the earcups to perfectly seal against the side of the head. This is crucial for both bass response and effective active noise cancelation.

We are also big fans of the fabric-covered headband as it’s a refreshing turn away from the typical plastic or faux leather we’ve seen from competitors like the Bose 700.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 price confirmed

The accidentally published listing also confirmed the Sennheiser Momentum 4 price. This is good news fro those of you who considered it a toss-up between the Bose 700, Sony Wh-1000XM5, and Momentum 4s as they will be priced at around $350.

This undercuts the Sony WH-1000XM5 by around $50 which could make or break the purchasing decision, depending on the critical reception of the Momentum 4s.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 release date

While we don’t have a precise Sennheiser Momentum 4 release date or time, Sennheiser itself has confirmed that the new headphones will be available in August 2022.

That’s as exact as we can get right now, but as the date, whenever it is, draws ever closer, we’ll keep our ear to the ground to keep you updated with the specifics.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 pre order

We’re going to assume that the Momentum 4 pre order page will go live soon before the release, but this isn’t a given.

Unlike the video games industry, There isn’t always a pre order period to take advantage of, sometimes the company just releases it straight-up.

Whatever the case, you’ll be able to get your hands on these pretty soon, but you might have to just grab them rapidly on release, instead of getting them delivered on day one.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 features

The Canadian retailer leak that we mentioned earlier also reveals that the Momentum 4s will have a “smart pause” feature. We don’t know exactly how it works yet, but we’re expecting some kind of accelerometer or motion sensor that’ll pause the audio when the headphones stop moving.

This could help save battery life, and will hopefully eventually actually turn the Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones completely off, unlike the current AirPods Max that only go into a low power mode.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 case

We’ve also now seen images of the momentum 4s packed away in the included (hopefully) carry case, which has also given us a convenient look at what exactly it comes with.

sennheiser momentum 4 case

It looks to be pretty minimal overall. From the photo, we can see that it comes with a 3.5mm audio cable, USB Type-C cable, and one of those amusing airplane adapters. Additionally, we can see one of those nifty nets for cramming extra stuff into.

As is normally the case with premium ANC headphones, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones look to be marketed toward those who travel frequently, as airplane noise is one of the easiest to cancel out with ANC. Not to mention the included airplane adapter.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 price

We have no confirmed price as of yet, however, the previous generations of the Sennheiser Momentum headphones can be used to plot a sort of price trajectory.

The Sennheiser Momentum 3 wireless headphones currently retail for $400 (£350). They’ve only experienced marginal price drops since release, unfortunately.

This means that we are probably looking at a slightly higher base price for the Sennheiser Momentum 4.

Our current guess is somewhere around $420 (blaze it). This will offer a nice price premium over the current gen, and from what we hear about the specs, It’s going to be a pretty fair price too.

Additionally, the Momentum 3 wireless headphones will probably experience a price cut, allowing the previous, but still excellent, headphones to become more accessible.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 design

We don’t have a lot to go on here. However, between the teaser image provided by Sennheiser and some educated guesses stemming from their previous designs.

We’ll start with the image from old mate Senny. From this, we can see that they’ve changed from the solid sliding frame of the Momentum 3s to something that looks more modern, possibly inspired by the Sony WH1000-XM5 we saw released recently.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 specs

As with the current generation, we are surely going to be treated to some pretty impressive specs. For a change, we actually have some confirmed features too.

The sound will be delivered by a pair of 42mm drivers, they’re also angled slightly backward to more organically fire sound into the ear canal.

The Sennheiser Momentum 4 mic is also due an upgrade. This time the mics are internal and angled, to better receive voice pickup. This might be a case of beamforming technology like we saw during our Asus ROG Delta S Wireless gaming headset review.

However, if they do go for the beamforming route, we hope it’s integrated better than the Delta S Wireless, as the mics on that headset were very prone to background noise.

Noise-canceling

The design of the Momentum 4 headphones has also been improved to further improve the ANC (Active noise canceling).

Deeper earcups and a better seal will improve both the noise-canceling performance and the bass response.

Additionally, the deeper earcups produce a more natural-sounding bass response too. This makes it sound more like the sound is coming from around you, instead of from a singular source.
