When it comes to ANC (Active noise-canceling) headphones, there are a lot of choices out there, even more in recent years due to the growing affordability of the once rare and expensive noise-canceling technology. For years the Sony WH 1000XM4’s have reigned supreme for their comfort, audio quality, and of course noise-canceling. However, they are beginning to age, meaning that their successor, the Sony WH 1000XM5 noise-canceling headphones are surely on the way soon.
Sony WH 1000XM5 release date
At present, we don’t have a confirmed Sony WH 1000XM5 release date as the Japanese technology giant keeps its cards close to its chest with upcoming products. But that’s not to say that we’re totally clueless as there is a precedent that we can explore in order to find somewhat of a conclusion. The venerable Sony WH 1000XM4 headphones hit the shelves in August of 2020, and the prior version, the XM3’s were released the same month in 2018.
This forms an easily identifiable pattern that allows us to make a reasonably safe assumption that you might be able to pick up a new set of Sony WH 1000XM5 headphones this very year, probably in August if the previous pattern is to continue. We have no current reasons to believe that Sony will break this streak, so it’s a reasonably safe bet.
Sony WH 1000XM5 Price
Given the previous pricing history of prior models at launch, we can assume that the Sony WH 1000XM5 will release at around $350. This was the case for both the XM4s and XM3s too. One issue that might affect both the price and the release date of the Sony WH 1000XM5 is the ongoing silicon and semiconductor shortage that continues to make PS5 consoles extremely scarce and annoyingly prone to dastardly scalpers.

Unfortunately, Sont didn’t announce the new headphones at CES 2022, however, all hope is not lost as there are still a fair amount of tech shows coming up this year, for example, NAB and SXSW. These are prime spots to announce something that has such a venerated lineage as a new set of Sony Noise-canceling headphones.
