Now, don’t get too excited; we haven’t observed any discounts yet, but Black Friday could very well bring an affordable 7800X3D if you’ve been looking for one. We know that the 9800X3D is a little leap ahead of the 7800X3D in terms of performance, but the 7000 series X3D processor is still an unmatched force to be reckoned with (it’s also a little bit more efficient than the new 9800X3D if you care about that).

Black Friday usually brings about sales regardless, but we have a tickling feeling (thanks to some price history data) that we’ll see a health drop in the 7800X3D around the big holiday sales event.

Black Friday is back, and with it comes huge savings on some of the market’s most popular gaming and tech products. We’ll be covering all the best deals in more details over in our deals hub, but if you haven’t got time to read through those, why not see our top picks below.

Why do we think the 7800X3D will have a good discount?

First, AMD wants you to buy the newer, slightly more expensive processor instead of the older, cheaper ones. Retailers will also want to clear the shelves of old stock to make way for newer influxes. But anyone can deduce that. We will look at historical data and what the 7800X3D release did to the 5800X3D price.

It’s slightly different since the CPUs are on different sockets. However, the 5800X3D remained relevant for a time, as it still stood tall against many brand-new processors in gaming workloads. X3D processors tend to hold value very well.

If you look at the chart, upon the release of the 7800X3D (April 6th, 2023), the 5800X3D was at a pretty high price but quickly dropped a couple of months later once the 7800X3D gained a foothold in the market. This drop was around $50 – $70, although it is hard to deduce from this graph that it made the 5800X3D the cheapest since its launch, which took roughly 12 months.

Of course, the 9800X3D wasn’t released 12 months after the launch of the 7800X3D, so we don’t have that pattern to rely on, nor has it been available for two months (November 7th). However, it has certainly rapidly gained a large foothold in the market; it is at the top of Amazon’s best-seller list right now.

The 9800X3D will alleviate 7800X3D stock issues

Looking at the 7800X3D, we can already see the 9800X3D release has impacted the price. Stock for this CPU has been an issue, particularly around the launch of the 9000 series and Core Ultra series from Intel. This was because the lacklustre performance drove many gamers to the 7800X3D. We predict this CPU will drop further around Black Friday since the 9800X3D gained traction in the market quickly.

This should alleviate the stock shortages for the 7800X3D and help bring it down to the lower price it should be, particularly around the holiday period. After all, the 7800X3D is still in production; it’s just out of stock because of the terrible CPU launches we have been having lately. This Reddit post agrees.

Of course, this is just a prediction; we don’t know whether this will come true, but it would be nice, wouldn’t it? Only time will tell
