The first The Forest game was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, giving players a unique gameplay opportunity to play as a lone survivor of a passenger jet, crash-landed in the mysterious forest in this unique survival horror game.
We have recently heard of an updated release date. February 23rd 2023 is the new Sons of the Forest release date. However, it’s only being released in Early Access.
There’s a lot of interest in the sequel, titled Sons Of The Forest, and a handy official gameplay trailer from the creators has already been released.

The Forest 2 Release Date – Sons Of The Forest
Update: We have got a new update on the Sons of the Forest release date.
The new release date is scheduled for February 23, 2023. The news comes from the latest tweet from the developers over at EndNight Games.
This has now been put back, as per the above. If you’re interested, you can catch the latest news on Sons of the Forest through the developer’s Twitter account.
Now that we know the game’s release date, we’ll likely know more information on the game through upcoming teaser trailers and other marketing promotions too.
The news of the information comes after several leaks reported the game was due a surprise drop in Halloween 2021.
However, that did not happen and we are still waiting on further delays.
The Forest 2 (Sons of the Forest) Early Access
The release date that has now been firmed after months and months of revisions and reschedules as February 23, 2023. However, this will only be in Early Access, due to a the persistent issues and delays we have heard about since 2022.
The title will now launch in Early Access on 23 February 2023, to avoid the game being delayed further. The title was originally set for a full release on this date, but developer Endnight Games now believes it needs more time before being considered ‘complete’.
In a Steam Announcement, the studio notified fans: “There is still so much more we want to add; items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and more. We didn’t want to delay again so have instead decided to involve the community in the continued development of this project and keep our February 23rd release date, but instead release in Early Access.”
The decision to switch to Early Access will likely be relieving for loyal fans. At least in some way shape or form, despite all the delays, there’ll be a substantial look at what the sequel will have to offer.
How long is Early Access meant to last?
“We are hoping to be in early access for around 6-8 months, but this could change. We will leave Early Access when we are certain this is the best version of the game possible.”
Is Sons of the Forest a sequel or a prequel?
There has been nothing released to date that suggests that Sons of the Forest will be set before events in The Forest.
There are a few theories flying around that it could run along a similar timeline and feature more of Timmy, the child that went missing after the plane crash in the original game but our money is that the game will arrive and be set as a traditional sequel, set a period of time after the end of The Forest.
Is Sons of the Forest delayed?
Yes, in the past, Sons of the Forest has had multiple pushbacks. Back in October 2022 was supposedly the revised and less ambitious date to amend the May 2022 announcement before, however, we are way past that. At this moment in time, it has recently been announced that the game has now been set to release in Early Access on February 23, 2023.
We are now in severely delayed territory, after so many set backs. However, we are hopeful that this will be the last major delay in the game’s development cycle.

For those unaware, the second Forest game is a sequel in the survival horror genre.

Sons of the Forest platforms
The only confirmed release platform for Sons of the Forest is PC, and it sounds like the developers at Endnight are solely focused on PC development for the time being. With that said, ports for Sons of the Forest on PS4, PS5 and Xbox might arrive in the future.
The Forest did launch on PC and PS4 in 2018, so there is some hope that this small team will get around to bringing the sequel to PS5 and Xbox Series X at some point.
Will Sons of the Forest be cross platform?
As the game is still in development it is unknown, however, The Forest was initially just for the PC platform, before later porting to PS4.
Seeing how successful and popular this series is becoming, it would be unsurprising to see a similar story with the Sons possibly coming to PS5.
Could Endnight integrate multiplayer into Sons of the Forest?
We certainly hope so, although we are unsure what that would look like.
Co-op is confirmed but we would love to see some FPS style Vs action, possibly reminiscent of early Far Cry days.
Sons of the Forest will see the return of mutants and possibly cannibals
As players of the original Forest game will know, mutants were a rather interesting part.
Developers confirmed that mutants such as Cowman or Virginia are not going to be returning to Sons, however, we will be introduced to some newbies.
Endnight confirmed that cannibals, known as creepers, are coming to the game.
All we can go off at this stage is the trailers provided.

Who is the girl in Sons of the Forest?
According to the fandom site, Virginia is the woman seen in the Sons of The Forest Trailers. Her name is shared with the multiple legged mutant of the first game, and shares the trait of multiple limbs, but is still quite different as well as having her humanity intact.
Will Sons of the Forest be 2 player?
