The Last of Us Day 2021: HBO show first look, release date

The Last of Us Day is a celebration of both the The Last of Us franchise and it’s passionate fan community. It has been celebrated under various names each year since 2013, and despite all the changes in the world the tradition has continued with a social media presence and a sale on the digital versions of both the video games and their associated shirts and other merchandise.

Although we still have no word on The Last of Us Factions (a standalone multiplayer game based on The Last of Us 2) or The Last of Us Remake for PS5 leaked by Jason Schreier, Naughty Dog and HBO have blessed us with a first look at the live action The Last of Us TV show starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) that is set to air on the HBO channel and HBO Max app.

When is the release date for The Last of Us on HBO?

There’s no current release date for The Last of Us HBO show, other than a loose release window for the first season of “2022”. Filming started in July 2021 and does not intend to end until June 2022, but The Last of Us on HBO could be one of those shows that is edited as the earlier episodes are released, so there’s not really a good way to make an educated guess.

As soon as we have more information on the The Last of Us HBO release date, we’ll update this page.

What is The Last of Us HBO show about?

We know that The Last of Us on HBO will adapt the first game, and HBO have released this plot synopsis explaining as much:

“The story takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heart-breaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”

Craig Mazin, the showrunner who previously worked on hit-show Chernobyl, has said that they will either expand upon or remove things from the story as they see is necessary, in order for it to fit the format and be a good piece of television first and foremost. The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann is also working on the show and the pair have confirmed that some of the changes are from the game’s deleted scenes and unrealised concepts.

If you like PlayStation, then you’re probably looking for something to play while you wait for The Last of Us on HBO. Have you tried Kena: Bridge of Spirits? It’s on PC too!
