The Ryzen 7 5700X is a fantastic CPU for building a budget gaming PC. It can push frame rates when paired with the powerful best GPU at high resolutions. It’s also very power efficient and belongs to a very affordable platform. Luckily for us, the 5700X is currently available on Amazon for 59% off the original list price, which is massive, especially if you’re looking to build something on a tighter budget.
This 8-core, 16-thread CPU is surprisingly capable, given that it’s an AM4 CPU. It’s easy to discount the capabilities of older generations when we have newer ones to compare to. This CPU has a core boost speed of up to 4.6 GHz and does all this in a neat little 65W TDP package—perfect for the budget-conscious.
With the price of AM4 right now and Black Friday in full swing, you could easily build a PC (without the GPU) for around $350 – $500. The GPU is (and should be) the most expensive part of the build, as it does most of the heavy lifting in almost all scenarios. If you want to shop the latest Black Friday Ryzen deals, we have a page dedicated just to that.
Is AM4 viable in 2024?
it’s a difficult question to answer as we don’t know AMD’s intentions for the future of AM4. We know that AMD has committed to longevity with its platforms, but we expect official support to end in or around 2025. But that doesn’t mean your PC will suddenly stop working. We suspect it may be 2025 because AMD wants to keep AM5 in support until 2027, and there’s no way AM4 will surpass its successor in support.
Regarding usability, we think a build containing the 5700X will be relevant for at least the next 2 to 3 years. If you futureproof your build with a good GPU now, you can upgrade the platform and CPU when AM5 and the 7000 series become cheaper.
What GPUs can I pair the 5700X with?
The 5700X is on the slower side of CPUs available today (mainly because it is two generations old), but it’s still surprisingly capable. You can comfortably pair this CPU with anything up to a 7900 XT / RTX 4070 Ti Super in 1440p—4K resolutions and not have many bottlenecking issues. That’s a pretty big achievement for a $130 CPU.
This CPU and GPU combo is ready to take on the gaming world, gobbling it up one AAA title at a time. We’re sure there are lots of RTX 4070 deals floating around with Amazon’s Black Friday Deals kicking off recently.
