Intel Core Ultra CPUs seem to have issues with the latest version of Windows 11, updating to 24H2 could result in crashes. Luckily, a BIOS update is all it takes to fix it.
Intel 200 series CPUs have been out for mere days, and we already have issues with the platform. Intel’s Z890 motherboards do not play very nicely with Windows 11 update 24H2. This update causes a conflict between the iGPU in the Arrow Lake processors and the dedicated GPU in the system. If you’re getting frequent blue screens and crashes after updating to 24H2, this could very well be the issue.
A note from ASUS came to El Chapuzas Informatico explaining the situation, here’s what it had to say:
“The issue arises because this version of Windows 11 24H2 may cause conflicts between the GPU and the integrated GPU (iGPU). Updating the BIOS or disabling the iGPU will resolve this conflict, ensuring that the GPU can function properly. These solutions should effectively resolve the Z890 motherboard display issue when installing Windows 11 24H2. If the issue persists, please contact ASUS technical support for further assistance.” – ASUS
How to fix the issue
Luckily, two very simple fixes can be performed to get your system back up and running smoothly and should be done if you plan on updating to the latest version of Windows 11. The fix was outlined clearly on El Chapuzas Informatico.
It seems, according to Vidoecardz, that the issue is also affecting other boards, meaning it isn’t isolated to the ASUS motherboards. Videocardz contacted other reviewers and asked if they had experienced an issue.
If you’re not particularly tech-savvy and are worried about the idea of updating a motherboard BIOS, don’t worry. Updating your motherboard BIOS is simple but if you don’t want to get too hands-on, you can always just disable the integrated graphics, or skip the Windows update (not recommended).
We don’t recommend skipping the update, as this is how important security updates are delivered to your system. Hopefully, Microsoft can patch these issues soon, as blue screens and crashing are definitely not what you want when you install your new expensive hardware.
