Originally announced in 2020, an upcoming open-world, action role-playing game set in the 1800s Wizarding World sent Harry Potter fans into a frenzy. Considering fans have been practically begging for a proper Harry Potter game for years, one that’s not riddled in microtransactions. So when fans learnt about the new game being developed by Avalanche Software and set to be published by Warner Bros, there was newfound hope.
However, since its initial announcement, there’s been very little to no further information. This could be for the best, to avoid setting up high expectations and thus being able to work at their own pace, without being pressed for time or urged to hit a release date. In the meantime, we can take a look at what we do know about Hogwarts Legacy.
What platforms will Hogwarts Legacy be on?
According to the game’s FAQ, Hogwarts Legacy will be available for PlayStation5, PlayStation4, PlayStation4 Pro, the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, and PC.
Hogwarts Legacy Release Date
Sadly, there’s no official release date but this could be for the best. As rushing a game and forcing a release date can often end up with the game feeling rushed and unfinished.
There’s a soft release date, which is sometime in 2022.
How will Hogwarts Legacy play?
The game is an open-world action RPG. With players being able to make their own characters and choose their own Hogwarts houses. Hogwarts Legacy is filled with immersive magic, putting players at the centre of their adventure to become the witch or wizard they choose to be. This includes if you want to pursue a path of good or evil.
Players get to grow their abilities, choose their spells and hone their combat skills. You can also become one of 8 different Wizard types. Although there’s been no specifics, we can assume these types will be along the lines of: Metamorphmagi, Seers, Transmuters, and so on…
They can select companions to help them fend of enemies, players will also encounter missions and scenarios that will pose difficult choices and determine what they stand for.

The story has players experiencing life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as they live the unwritten and embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.
