ASUS Dynamic OC switcher: ASUS just announced a brand new AM5 motherboard feature at Gamescom 2022, over in Germany. This feature is called “Dynamic OC switcher” and it pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin.
Now read: Zen 4 what we know.
This is the first time we have seen this feature announced, and we’re not sure if this is exclusive to ASUS or not. But we will assume so until told otherwise.
AMD is set to release their AM5 motherboards when AMD gives the go-ahead, the latest rumor is that AMD will release their AM5 motherboards and accompanying Zen 4 CPUs on September 27th, 2022.
What is the AMD Dynamic OC switcher?
Dynamic OC switcher will be available on ASUS AM5 motherboards, and it looks like it’s made with AMD in mind as it’s intended to be a support for AMD’s overclocking system named PBO or “Precision Boost Overdrive”.
The way the “Dynamic OC Switcher” works is it supposedly uses AI to measure temperatures and current usage of your CPU, and applies an overclock based on those processor metrics.
The formula of which is currently unclear but we assume it’s similar to how PBO works, the lower the temperature of your CPU the better boost PBO will provide. This explanation was a gross oversimplification but serves as a basic enough example.
It seems the Dynamic OC Switcher is designed to offer both single-core and multi-core performance benefits. Without the Dynamic OC Switcher, you’re stuck using PBO or a manual overclock, each only benefiting one end of your Ryzen CPU.
Now it seems that the OC Switcher is here to bridge the gap, and allow gamers to operate with both multi and single-thread boosts dynamically allocated when they’re needed.
How do you enable the Dynamic OC switcher?
It seems as though the Dynamic OC switcher will be a BIOS setting like many other CPU overclocking options.
We don’t know yet whether this option will be added in software outside of the BIOS such as AMD Ryzen Master Utility.
As far as we know, the Dynamic OC Switcher will be available on all ASUS AM5 motherboards. We haven’t seen any other motherboard manufacturers announce this technology yet, but if we do we’ll be sure to update this page.
