These specifications have the Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB sitting pretty right in the middle of the pack, between the 3080 and 3080Ti. Meaning, we could get the best of both worlds, with this SKU likely to be more powerful than the base RTX 3080, but not quite reaching the speeds you would expect from the 3080Ti model, which also has the same amount of VRAM. This is likely due to die binning, meaning that the chips that don’t get used on the RTX 3080Ti or cannot be certified to say that they meet the minimum standard for an RTX 3080Ti are now being rebadged as the RTX 3080 12GB.
Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB price & pre-order
The price of the Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB is likely to be around $799-$899, as this pricepoint sits right in the middle of the other two chips in the stack, the 3080 and 3080Ti respectively. We will be incredibly surprised if it turns out to be lower than this, but due to the status of GPU shortages, we don’t recommend holding your breath for getting anything cheaper than that.
Nvidia RTX 3080 12GB release date
We expect the release date of the RTX 3080 12GB to be the end of January 2022, or the beginning of February 2022 at the latest, due to constraints this chip was delayed from being announced at CES, so we’re sure that it might not coincide with the release of things such as the RTX 3090Ti or the RTX 3050, both of which are also releasing in this same period.
