The Witcher 3. Has any game enjoyed such a long-standing length of success? Even years after its release it’s still the focus of all kinds of praise and jokes for being such a commonly upheld example of what a great game should be.

Its right to be praised as well, it’s a great game – but it is five years old now. I’ve talked before about the brilliant mods out there that give The Witcher 3 a visual overhaul to match the look of other games in 2020.

Now, there is another visually based mod available for players of The Witcher 3 (who use Nvidia), which lets them sort out the anti-aliasing issues present in the game, and bring them in line with a more modern look.

‘What is anti-aliasing?’ I hear you ask?  In gaming, it’s commonly used as a technique to smooth jagged lines in or on textures in the game, by blending the color of the edge of a texture with the surrounding pixels. This should, at a distance, give a game a more realistic appearance and take away the problems of jagged lines sticking out of characters and the environment, ruining the immersion.

So, a modernized version of anti-aliasing textures is a good thing as it makes the world just that little bit more palatable, and less of a stress on the eyes. In fact, the maker of this mod stated that they made it because blurry anti-aliasing gives them eye strain, and makes the game ‘smudgy’ – so if you suffer the same problems, the Witcher 3’s smooth anti-aliasing mod could be for you.

The only drawback of the mod is that it only works on PCs running Nvidia FXAA, because the mod itself is based on a combo of FZAA and Reshade – as well as in-game low anti-aliasing settings. Realistically, the mod only changes a very small aspect of the game, but its effects are drastic, with textures and environments blending much easier than they did beforehand, with less of a blurry visualization of the larger game world and easier to define textures.

Keep your eyes open and ready if you are a fan of mods for The Witcher 3, as the famous Witcher 3 HD Reworked mod is currently being worked on ready for a new version in the very near future. Got a Witcher 3 mod you want to share with us? Let us know in the comments below.
