We’ve previously kept pretty close tabs on the most recent AMD leaks, but with the industry, as it is right now, dates are slipping and sliding around everywhere. But, this time, we’re seeing a date not slip, but actually, be pushed a little bit earlier than we once originally thought. This information comes from industry insider Greymon55, who has previously leaked out the information correctly and has a fairly consistent track record.

AMD Zen 4 / Ryzen 7000 release date window

According to Greymon55, AMD Zen 4 could be coming earlier than we originally thought. With an original estimation of Q4 as the release window for Zen 4 processors, Greymon55 mentioned that this was being moved up to Q3, meaning that we could see Ryzen 7000 series chips hit stores this Fall.

When quizzed on a specific release date, Greymon55 replied that it will be coming in earlier than September 22 of this year, but that timeline would mean that we could be in for an official announcement of the CPUs themselves around Computex 2022. It’s likely that AMD will be a part of the event, with a live stream of some kind in the Summer, ahead of the official launch. This news comes in tandem with the first AM5 motherboards finally rolling off of the production lines, too.

With AMD taking 25.6% of all market share on x86 CPUs, it certainly seems like they don’t want to cede any of the ground they have gained.

AM5 motherboards are already in production

The LGA1718 AM5 socket surprised many, with AMD going for an LGA-based solution which means that the days of bending your Ryzen CPUs will soon be over. However, we’re also getting word from Greymon55 that AM5 motherboards are beginning to get rolled off of the production line, meaning that we’re likely to see leaks of the boards themselves fairly soon. This generation is poised to begin using additional features such as DDR5, which we’ve previously seen in Intel’s latest generation Alder Lake CPUs. But, where does this leave AMD’s plans for Ryzen 4000 on the lower ends? Could they potentially be abandoning that particular fight to wait out for Zen 4 CPUs, since they’re due to arrive on scene much quicker than anyone really expected them to. However, you’re not going to be completely left in the lurch, since we know that the 6000-series CPUs are just around the corner.

With a new generation and socket, and new architecture in tow. It’s inevitable that Zen 4 is going to have a new handful of yield issues. As the curve goes, it’s likely that there may be more issues at the start of this new generation of hardware, then at the middle. Regardless, it’s always going to be a risky move to move away, innovate and do something new. But, with Zen 4 and AM5 potentially arriving sooner than anyone else may have thought, it’s possible that we’re going to see brand-new hardware from AMD that gamers are bound to want to tune in to.
