Ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date, we discuss the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 features we want to see in this upcoming device.

Samsung entered the foldable market with a giant leap when no company was ready to do it. Hence, they have become the undisputed pioneer of foldable technology. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is currently the best foldable smartphone, but its success has more to do with software than hardware. For example, the Xiaomi has the Mix Fold 2, which is significantly thinner; Vivo’s X Fold and Huawei’s Mate X2 are equipped with a more advanced camera system than the Galaxy Z; and the Oppo N2 has a better, almost crease-free display. All these foldable smartphones can also fold completely flat, while Samsung Z Fold 4 cannot.

Even with all these limitations, Samsung Z Fold 4 is still a top contender in the foldable market all due to their refined software and the best 3rd party app support, however we hope that Samsung will improve these features in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 specs (predicted)

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will probably launch at the end in 2024, but rumors and speculations are already hyping the next foldable flagship from Samsung. Rumors indicate the company will introduce a few updates; here’s what we have heard.

Chipset: The Galaxy S23 series uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So, we expect the same chipset on the Z Fold 5 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Plus if Qualcomm decides to release it.

Camera: Samsung will likely use the same triple camera setup, but the company may replace the primary sensor with a new 108MP sensor. There will also be a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and the 10Mp telephoto sensor could get replaced with a 64MP 2x zoom camera. Samsung could also upgrade the selfie camera to 12MP, the same one used on the S23 series.

Design: A major design overhaul is possible. Samsung is working on a new teardrop-style hinge, similar to Oppo Find N2. A Korean publication named Naver has stated that the new design could make the device more compact.

Screen Size: The same 7.6-inches Inner Screen, and 6.2-inches External

Display Type: Samsung will use its proprietary AMOLED panel, but we could also see the implementation of a new prototype display technology called the Flex In & Out.

Battery: 4,400 mAh, 25W wired charging (predicted)

Dimensions: 158.5 x 128.5 x 6.5mm unfolded and 158.5 x 67.5 x 14.5 – 16mm when folded (According to The Pixel, a Vietnamese website)

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 features we want to see

We expect to see a few improvements in the upcoming interaction of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. Here they are; see if you agree.

1. A Dedicated S-Pen Slot

The Galaxy Z Fold gained S-pen support in 2021. Unlike the Galaxy Note or the Galaxy S Ultra, the S-pen doesn’t come with the device. So, you must purchase it separately and carry an additional carry pouch to keep the S-pen. It is an inconvenience.

So, it would be great if Samsung built a slot at the base of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to keep the S-Pen.

2. A Less Prominent Crease

One of the biggest flaws of the Galaxy Z Fold is the noticeable crease. Initially, it was acceptable, as the foldable technology was brand new, and the company was getting the hang of it.

But it is still the same on the fourth iteration of the device, where several other companies have also released foldable smartphones with a significantly less noticeable crease. The reason behind the deeper crease on the Samsung foldable is the hinge tech, which the company will replace, according to the rumor. So, we are hopeful.

3. Thinner Design

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is sturdy, but it is way too thick in folded condition. The device measures up to 0.5 to 0.6 inches, whereas devices like iPhone 14 or Galaxy S23 measure up to 0.3 inches barely.

So, it can be cumbersome if you are not used to handling the device in open form. The hinge Samsung is using makes the device much thicker due to the gap in folded condition. We hope to to see a thinner Z Fold 5 with a new hinge system in 2024.

4. A Better Camera System

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the company’s most expensive device, but in terms of camera hardware, it is comparable to Samsung’s mid-tier devices. The Z Fold 4 got a camera upgrade, but it cannot be called a flagship-level setup.

Samsung shouldn’t be hindered by any technical limitations when it comes to adding a larger sensor at least. Companies like Vivo and Huawei have accomplished this, so to a company like Samsung, it is clearly achievable. So, we expect to see a bigger primary sensor and a 10x Space Zoom in the Z Fold 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 features we want to see FAQs

What can the Samsung Galaxy Fold do?

The Samsung Galaxy Fold series are phones that come with stylus support and a screen that (you guessed it) folds out – meaning it is relatively compact in your pocket but has the screen surface area akin to a small tablet. This give sit some of the functionality of both a phone and tablet device.

Should I wait for the Fold 5?

If it turns out that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is going to release ins Q3 2023 as we suspect, then we’d advise waiting to see what this new device offers (or for the subsequent price drops in the Fold 4).

If we hear that the phone is only coming out in 2024 however, then you might be better buying the Galaxy Z Fold 4 now.
