You might not have heard of the humble RCA tablet, but the company that manufactures them has been going for over 100 years, and it’s now producing affordable Android and Windows tablet devices.

The iPad might be the gold standard when it comes to tablets (particularly if you’re looking for a tablet for drawing or photo editing), but they cost a lot of money. And, below them, the sub $300 segment of tablets is sort of like the wild west. In the midst of all this, RCA tablets are very popular on Amazon – and for good reason.

RCA tablets are proof that there is still a space for affordable tablets out there. Of course, you will have to adjust expectations slightly (these won’t be making it onto our best gaming tablet list), but there are still some great devices that you can pick up without breaking the bank. There are some good reasons why you would want to look below the premium offerings. We’ll get into that throughout this article. For now, let’s dive deeper and look at the best RCA tablets in 2022.

Tablet deals are live! Get big savings on tablets of all brands, shapes and sizes on Best Buy and Amazon in 2022, including: RCA, Samsung, Amazon Fire, Lenovo, and Microsoft Surface Pro tablets as well as ASUS, HP and Dell 2-in-1 laptops.

Best RCA tablets: things to consider

As we have discussed earlier, RCA tablets might be relatively unknown to a lot of you. So, let’s have a quick look at what these tablets are about and what you should expect before buying.

Adjust your expectations

As we discussed earlier, Apple’s iPads are dominating the tablet market. Apple has almost 40% of the market share in the tablet space. That’s a significant amount.

Still, there are budget tablets out there that offer great value, but they’re not exactly ‘cheap’. And, when you’re looking at budget tablets, you want to make sure that you’re still getting a device that can do what you want it to.

There are no two ways around it: RCA tablets are cheap, for better or for worse. While they will handle casual tasks such as watching videos and jumping around social apps, they are not all that powerful.

Storage

You likely want to use your tablet as a secondary device, to watch Netflix and Youtube, listen to music, read a book, or maybe even type up simple documents. Furthermore, a tablet is also a great way to view photos and videos.

As such, storage is still important for a secondary device such as a tablet. RCA tablets usually start at 16 GB of storage, and that can go up to 64 GB depending on the model. That might seem a bit low. However, these tablets do have a microSD slot so that you can expand the storage yourself, although this does incur an extra cost.

Screen and battery life

As tablets are secondary devices, you want to have access to a decent screen. You’ll use a tablet to view content that is more enjoyable on a bigger screen than the phone. As such, screen size, resolution, and especially the quality of the screen are important.

However, as we said before, you have to adjust your expectations here. Most RCA tablets have an IPS LCD display that can display HD content. Some make use of 1080p resolution, but those models are few and far between.

Still, the screens are usually decent enough for the price and the overall value. Again, know what you are paying for beforehand.

Battery life is important for any Android or Windows tablet. This is because while you might not be using these devices all the time, you still want them to be ready when you are. Fortunately, most RCA tablets have a battery life of six hours and more.

Since you are not going to be using these tablets all day, that is perfectly fine for the money.

Why buy an RCA tablet?

By now, you might be getting the impression that RCA tablets sit below the premium tablets on the market. You’d be right here – RCA tablets are cheap, affordable tablets. So, if you’re looking to replace your iPad or Macbook, you should certainly look elsewhere.

RCA tablets are not for power users, and they are definitely not designed with very tech-savvy people in mind. Instead, these are for people who casually want to browse the internet, type documents, and respond to emails on a bigger screen.

They’re also for people who want to keep social media away from their work phone, and want to watch something when they’re on the move.

RCA Cambio Windows

RCA Cambio Windows

Display

12.2-inch, 1920 x 1200 resolution

Storage

64GB

Memory

2GB

Processor

Intel Celeron N400

Pros
  • The best screen on an RCA tablet
  • Works wonderfully as a laptop
  • Full Windows experience on the go
  • Decent battery life
Cons
  • Limited memory capacity

The Cambio Windows is by far RCA’s best machine to date. While this is more of a laptop than a tablet, the 2-in-1 form factor allows it to work wonderfully as both. Convertible laptops are nothing new, and while their popularity has died down somewhat, they still make a lot of sense when it comes to budget devices. When you want to relax and watch a movie, you can use it as a laptop. When you’re in business mode and want to get some work done, the laptop mode works well.

The screen here is detachable, allowing you to seamlessly switch between the two modes. Speaking of which, this RCA tablet uses a 1920×1200 IPS display. The 12-inch screen size is good enough for a portable laptop and massive for a cheap tablet.

For the processor, this tablet uses an Intel Celeron N4000. This is an older processor that can go up to 2.6GHz. While something more powerful would be better, it’s decent enough for a cheap machine. The 2GB of RAM, however, is quite limiting.

All in all, this is the best RCA tablet for emails and editing word documents on Windows OS.

02

RCA Atlas 10 Pro

RCA 10 inch storage quad core

Display

10-inch, 1280 x 800 resolution

Storage

64GB

Memory

2GB

Processor

1.3GHz, Quad-core

Pros
  • Decent Android 10 experience
  • Good for emulation
  • Great battery life
  • Includes microSD card and keyboard
Cons
  • Low-resolution display

Cheaper Android tablets generally come with some limitations. The RCA Atlas 10 Pro is no different here. However, if you need a cheap tablet for casual use, or for giving to the kids, this RCA tablet may just be your best bet.

We say this mostly because of the large screen. The 10-inch display is big enough to make watching videos and reading an enjoyable experience. The trade-off is that the 1280×800 resolution is quite low and if you’re coming from a better display, you will notice the difference.

However, you are getting a full Android 10 tablet experience for a very cheap price. It costs almost next to nothing and considering that, it represents good value. The battery life is decent, and this cheap tablet works well if you want to play some retro games via emulation.

The Play Store is chock-full of emulators, making this device more versatile than it may seem.

Apart from the low-resolution display, it’s hard to ignore a full-fledged tablet that is this cheap.

RCA Pro 12

RCA Pro 12

Display

12.2-inch, 1280 x 1200 resolution

Storage

64GB

Memory

2GB

Processor

1.3GHz, Quad-core

Pros
  • A 12-inch screen on a budget
  • The included keyboard works well
  • Brilliant display for the price
Cons
  • Dated Android version
  • Terrible cameras

Our first spot on the list went to a Windows RCA tablet. The RCA Pro 12 tablet is quite similar to it, and the only major difference is that this one runs on Android. Admittedly, some might say that is a better experience as Android is easier to run.

The display here is quite good, especially once you consider the price. The 1920 x 1200 resolution allows images and videos to look great. It uses a 16:10 aspect ratio, making it great for productivity and reading.

Like many other RCA tablets, the processor and RAM here are quite underpowered. That is to be expected at this price point. What’s not to be expected is that this runs Android 6, which is quite ancient these days. Fortunately, the included keyboard gives you a decent typing experience.

Again, while it may not be a super-powerful all-rounder, this is the best big-screen RCA tablet if you’re on a budget.

04

RCA Voyager Pro+

RCA Voyager Pro

Display

7-inch, 1024 x 600 resolution

Storage

16GB

Memory

2GB

Processor

1.3GHz, Quad-core

Pros
  • Android GO works well here
  • Highly portable and lightweight
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Dated Android version
  • Subpar display

As you might have figured out by now, RCA tablets are not for tech-savvy people. This one certainly does not change that. However, as cheap as it is, this might just be the perfect budget Android tablet

Let’s be honest, young children can be careless. They don’t care how expensive a piece of tech is, they will find a way to break it somehow. That is why giving them a cheap tablet might not be a good route to go down.

This tablet runs Android GO, which happens to be a stripped-down version of Android. While the 2GB RAM is not a lot, Android GO uses lite versions of many apps to make things run smoother.

Overall, this tablet is not for the power user but it works great for kids.

Final Word

Overall, RCA tablets are niche devices. They are certainly not aimed at people who are tech-savvy or need something powerful. Instead, if you’re looking for a cheap tablet and don’t care about power performance, then they might be a decent option. As we have mentioned many times before, know what you are getting into. RCA tablets do not provide a premium experience, and they are not supposed to at the price either. However, we hope that we have helped you decide which cheap RCA tablet is the right choice for you.
