Esports On Twitch
Esports and Esports tournaments are a big source of viewership for Twitch, and recently the platform has even broadcast some more conventional sports such as NBA, NFL, and Premier League matches.
The Twitch User Experience
One of the key features of the platform is the audience interaction element. Via the chat function, viewers can send messages to the chat feed which may be read by the streamer. The in-platform currency known as ‘bits’ can be used to draw more attention to particular comments. Although Twitch is free to use in its most basic form, users often pay monthly subscription fees to their favorite streamers to help support them and gain extra functionality and bits to spend as a result. There is a biannual convention known as TwitchCon in which fans get to meet and greet their favorite streamers.
Who Owns Twitch?
Twitch is owned by Twitch Interactive, a U.S.-based company that is a subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc. Although they offer somewhat different types of service, Twitch is a competitor of Discord Inc. and also of YouTube, which is a subsidiary of Google and, in turn, of Alphabet.
