Both the Kanto Sandshrew that we all know and love from the Gen 1 Pokédex and its snowy white Alolan variation are in Pokémon GO. But can either be encountered in its shiny variant?

Can Sandshrew be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Sandshrew, confusingly known as the Mouse Pokémon, is a Ground-type Pokémon, and was introduced to Pokémon GO at launch, with other Gen 1 Pokémon. It’s shiny variant, however, was added later, becoming available during the Japan-exclusive Tottori Festival in December 2018, following shortly after in the rest of the world.

As such, the answer is yes! Sandshrew is available in its shiny form in Pokémon GO. The shiny is an adorable green variant, making it stand out from its normal form.

Can Alolan Sandshrew be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Alolan Sandshrew is a regional variant of the Mouse Pokémon, which was launched in the Sun and Moon games based in the Alola Region. As technically a different Pokémon, it was released to Pokémon GO later that Gen 1 Sandshrew, only being released during the introduction of the Friends system in June, 2018. It’s shiny variant was released for the game’s third anniversary a year later, in June 2019. So, yes, Alolan Sandshrew is also available to be encountered in its shiny form – if you’re lucky!
