Note: the Back 4 Blood open beta, free to play all weekend begins today, 12th August 2021 – read all about it here.

The Back 4 Blood disconnected from server error has been a frequent issue experienced by many players during the Back 4 Blood beta. The error seems to be associated with the server-side connection. For the majority of players, this error has been encountered in the hub area of Fort Hope, though it can happen in various places in the game. The error also seems to be only affecting those who have the Steam version of Back 4 Blood.

As frustrating as they are, such bugs are to be expected during a beta – this is the whole reason betas exist in the first place!

At the time of writing, there is no one guaranteed fix to this problem. We have listed below a couple of fixes which have worked for some people, but not for everyone. If you try them all and you’re still having problems, then the unfortunate reality may be that you’ll just have to wait until the proper release of the game when the developers have resolved such issues. Anyway, positive thinking and all that, let’s get stuck into some of the potential fixes for resolving the Back 4 Blood server disconnected error.

Disable Cross-Play To Fix Back 4 Blood Disconnected From Server Error

Some users have reported that this method works pretty well for them. Whilst not convenient if you want to play with friends on different platforms, if you’re not bothered about this feature then crossplay can easily be turned off which may solve the problem, so should be your first port of call when trying to stop the Back 4 Blood disconnected from server error from appearing in the first place.

Reinstall Back 4 Blood In Your Steamapps folder To Resolve Disconnected From Server Error

The second major cause of the Back 4 Blood disconnected from server error is that the game apparently needs to be installed on the same drive as the operating system runs from in order to move properly.

The Steamapps folder (the primary one) is usually the best bet for this. The exact file pathway may differ but the most common is as follows:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Back4BloodBeta

Follow the below steps in order to install the game in the correct folder:

  • Uninstall Back 4 Blood and restart your PC
  • Load up Steam and the Back 4 Blood Beta
  • Click install, and under Choose a location for install  select your primary Steam folder (file pathway as above or similar, depending on the name of your main hard drive)
  • After you have installed the game, restart your PC, open Steam, boot the Back 4 Blood beta and see if the issue persists.
