Is the RTX 4090 overkill for gaming?

To begin with, an RTX 4090 is overkill unless you are planning to play the latest games at 8k resolution with high graphics settings. If you are gamer playing games like GTA V or Counter Strike at 4K or below, you will have a better run for your money buying a predecessor of this GPU.
As even its predecessor can provide you with good-resolution gameplay and easily go over 140 FPS. If you are looking forward to playing the latest games in 1440p operating at least 100FPS, it is recommended that you buy a 30 series card (like an RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 ) with a power supply of at least 800 W.
But as long as computer graphics continue to advance and we move into higher resolutions like 8K, the 3090 will become absolutely obsolete at some point in time.
