A new Wifi standard is on the way, providing consumers and enterprises with a faster, next-gen connection.

Wifi 7 is based on the developing IEEE 802.11be standard and aside from faster speeds, you can also expect reduced latency and jitter from time-sensitive networking applications.

The development of Wifi 7 is currently still ongoing with no official Wifi 7 release date just yet.

The outline of Wifi 7 looks like it will obviously benefit those at home and particularly those in business. No more out-of-sync meetings or congested internet environments, Wifi 7 will be silky smooth.

What is Wifi 7?

As mentioned Wifi 7 is based on the EEE 802.11be standard, which is the next amendment of 802.11 IEEE.

Wifi 7 is set to be the next major generation in wifi development, focusing on physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) improvements.

the new stsandard will use the full potential of the 6Ghz band, boasting double the bandwidth of the previous gen.

You can also expect reduced latency and jitter for applications such as AR/VR, 4K and 8K video streaming, automotive, cloud computing, gaming, and more.

Wifi 7 will be backward compatible and will also happily coexist with legacy devices in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz spectrum bands.

Wifi 7 features 320 MHz ultra-wide bandwidth, 4096-QAM, Multi-RU, and Multi-Link Operation to provide speeds 4.8x faster than WiFi 6 and 13x faster than WiFi 5.

Everything we know about Wifi 7 routers

Major router manufacturer TP-Link has plans to come to market this year with Wifi 7 supporting routers.

As previously mentioned, these routers will be capable of being 4.8x faster than WiFi 6 and 13x faster than Wifi 5.

In other words, Wifi 7 will feature an extremely high throughput of up to 46 Gbps. To put that into perspective, WiFi 6E featured a max data rate of 9.6 Gbps.

TP-Link is already showcasing their upcoming routers and access points with Wifi 7 support.
