With an increasing number of individuals working from home via the internet, your business’ data is more at risk than ever before. Gone are the days when a half-decent firewall was good enough to keep your personal data safe. Nowadays, highly efficient internet security seems to be the only way to keep yourself private when browsing the web.

One of the best ways to keep your data safe is a virtual private network (VPN) – an application that will encrypt your data when browsing via public networks. The VPN will hide your IP address by making it look like you’re in a different location. Someone using a work computer can use a VPN to make it look like they’re connecting from a different country entirely.

NordVPN Teams is the latest cloud-based network service for businesses – helping maintain the privacy of your company and the individuals within it. In the following article, we’ll be taking a closer look at NordVPN Teams to check out the main features and decide whether or not NordVPN Teams is worth your consideration.

So, with plenty to get through, let’s waste no further time and dive straight into it!

NordVPN Teams’ Main Features

Like most top-end VPN services, NordVPN Teams also boasts a tonne of features that allow businesses to stay protected. In the following section, we’ll be going over all the main features to see how this package compares to other VPNs out there.

Centralized Control Panel

For me, NordVPN Teams’ centralized control panel is what separates this tool from more single-user VPN products. The control panel is the heart of the service, allowing a management figure to overlook the members who use it.

Within the control panel, you can easily invite colleagues onto the service – with a simple email notification feature that prompts the user to download the VPN onto their devices. Furthermore, businesses with large workforces won’t have to worry about manually sending hundreds of emails. Simply compile a list of emails separated by a space or comma and the software does the rest for you.

In the members’ section, you’ll also be able to group individuals into unique teams – mirroring how the business operates on the front end. If you opt for the advanced plan, you’ll also have access to use your Teams as a permissions system, where custom gateways and dedicated services can be created and assigned.

Device Login

Within the control panel, you can also reset an individual’s password, restrict their access, or delete them all together in a relatively easy fashion. You also have access to a ‘Member Devices’ section which allows you to see when a user logged in and the device in which they did so. However, whilst this seems like a neat feature, it actually only informs you on when the user last logged into the website. If you want to check whether or not that staff member is using the VPN as instructed, you’ll have to wait – that feature is coming soon.

Finally, NordVPN Teams also offers a two-factor authentication process which effectively adds another layer of security to your VPN package. Control access to your system by the user, IP, Location, user group, date, time, or even browser and operating system. You’ll also be able to enable certain features for unique individuals – like permanently enabling Kill Switch for juniors.

Large Server Base

Having a robust server infrastructure is one of the most essential features of a good VPN service. Fortunately, NordVPN Teams offers a wide server base that covers thousands of servers in 33 countries. Whilst most of the countries are found within Europe, NordVPN Teams still offers connections across the United States, Asia, and Australia.

Server Base

The wide network of servers that NordVPN Teams offers helps to ensure smooth performance no matter where you or your coworkers are. It will also allow users to access your business’ data from around the globe without the risk of any data breach occurring – especially useful when trying to access content that is restricted due to licensing.

Kill Switch

User protection is the number one priority for NordVPN Teams. With that in mind, Nord offers an additional layer of protection in the form of a kill switch. Let’s be honest, even the best VPNs can malfunction or fall victim to unstable internet connections. During this small time window where the VPN is not active, you’re massively increasing the chances of a data breach.

Kill switch feature

For that reason, NordVPN Teams offers a kill switch that will automatically cut off your internet access when your VPN drops – reactivating when a stable connection is established. Users have the option to enable or disable the kill switch feature, but for us, there is no reason in deactivating it at all. It’s just another layer of protection that goes towards your business’ data safe.

Multi-platform Usage

Like any decent VPN, NordVPN Teams allows all members of the business account to utilize the protection across numerous platforms. Whether you’re looking to keep your data safe on your tablet, mobile, laptop, or PC, NordVPN Teams allows you to easily and quickly block any data breaching.

Unlike some other VPN services, NordVPN Teams mobile application allows you to utilize all the same features as the desktop app. This not only adds more protection to vulnerable devices, but it adds a tonne of value to the service.

Centralized Billing

One of the great features we found when using NordVPN Teams was centralized billing. No matter how many users you plan to add to your VPN service, you’ll only ever receive one single bill.

Whilst this might not sound like a huge deal, businesses with large workforces won’t have to deal with a tonne of invoices each month – saving both time and effort.

Layout And Ease Of Use

Taking a look at the layout of the VPN, you’d have to say that Nord has opted for a much simpler, more streamlined offering with its business-focused Teams. The Windows application is incredibly simple, designed as a sidebar that sits on the right-hand side of your desktop when changing between locations.

The application loads up on Windows Startup and enabled Kill Switch by default – not a bad thing. The servers and their relating countries are the main focus of the desktop app, clearly listed on the right but not in alphabetical order – weirdly. They seem to have opted for relevance over alphabet – which is fine.

Logging into a server couldn’t be easier – simply left-click on the country you’d like to connect to and it will do so immediately. Connection time takes a couple of seconds and you’re then fully protected.  At the bottom of the NordVPN Teams app, you can also see whether or not your connection is secure. If not, you can simply reactivate the server or enable a different server.

You can quickly close the VPN to access your own country’s data by clicking the ‘Quit App’ button at the top of the desktop app. Users will find a ‘Settings’ button next to it, where the main features of the application can be activated.

Navigating the settings area of Teams couldn’t be easier, benefiting from a simple design that is very user-friendly. Whilst there aren’t a tonne of settings to choose from, there is enough to be able to customize the application to your liking. Choose between a number of VPN protocols, enable auto-connecting on Windows startup, and make changes to your account all within the intuitive user application.

Customer Support

As far as customer support is concerned, NordVPN Teams offered a hit-and-miss experience. Unlike other services in this sector, Teams didn’t offer any web-based knowledge or FAQs – something that could potentially cause problems later down the line.

Furthermore, documentation is available but only in limited amounts, with the Teams Downloads page only offering up user guides and basic setup manuals.

On the plus side, Nord does offer ticket support which is incredibly easy to access – with quick response that is often under 20 minutes. The support feature allows you to ask a question or describe your problem, with advice being of high quality.

NordVPN Teams’ Pricing

For those interested in NordVPN Teams, the service comes in two main plans – NordVPN Teams Basic and NordVPN Teams Advanced.

NordVPN Teams basic is exactly what it says on the tin – an entry-level version of the service that covers all the core features and functionality listed above. Businesses have the ability to utilize user management, centralized banking, transferrable licenses, third-party logins, and multi-platform usage. This package starts at $7 a month if you decide to pay on a yearly basis. For those looking to operate under a monthly subscription payment plan, the basic package starts at $9.

The second option, NordVPN Teams Advanced offers up additional features such as 24/7 support, dedicated account managers, and the option to add dedicated servers with a fixed IP – albeit for an additional $40. Users will also receive support for custom gateways as well. The same pricing applies to the Advanced plan, with users having the option to pay yearly for a small discount ($9) or monthly for $11.

Businesses that prioritize their security might be interested in NordVPN Teams’ Enterprise plan. This package stacks up the high-end features that include; site-to-site VPN, LDAP Active Directory support, API access for automation, and support for dedicated servers too. Strangely, no actual pricing is available on the site – instead, you’ll have to get a custom quote tailored to your exact needs.
