It’s important to have a CPU that can maintain a steady 60FPS or above in your games to enjoy a comfortable gaming experience.

What are the CPU requirements for Euro Truck Simulator 2?

The game’s developers recommend you use a Quad-core 3.0GHz CPU for ETS2. They haven’t named a particular CPU, but the specs they’ve mentioned resemble those of the oldest Core i5 processors. They used to be quad-cores with core clocks just above 3GHz, and without hyperthreading enabled.

Of course, we can’t recommend you go with an old i5 processor in this day and age. What we have in store for you is much more recent. We’re using the CPUs’ price-to-performance ratio as a key criterion in our selection since ETS2 will run smoothly on most modern processors.

Best CPU for Euro Truck Simulator 2 – Ryzen 5 5600

We consider the Ryzen 5 5600 to be the best processor for Euro Truck Simulator 2. This Zen 3 processor features 6 multithreaded cores, amounting to 12 threads. The processor has a 3.5GHz base clock speed but can boost all the way up to a more reasonable 4.4GHz when under load.

The Ryzen 5600’s clearly far exceed those recommended by the developers, so with this CPU, you’ll have no problems playing Euro Truck Simulator 2, even at the highest settings with an uncapped framerate.

Overall, the Ryzen 5 5600 is a solid mid-range gaming processor, which will provide you with admirable performance in ETS2. The CPU can even handle your more advanced triple-A titles without a problem, as long as you pair it up with a suitable GPU, such as a GTX 3070.

For ETS2 exclusively, you can get away with a much weaker GPU, such as a GTX 1650, especially if you’re playing on 1080p resolution. If your screen resolution is 1440p or 4k, it would be better to push the minimum up to a 1660S or Ti.

Like all Ryzen processors, you can overclock the 5600 to get higher clock speeds if you want to get extra performance out of it for the more demanding titles. Overclocking isn’t necessary by any means, but it is an option you can keep in your back pocket.

You’ll just need a motherboard that supports overclocking. It’s essential to know that overclocking increases a processor’s power consumption and heat generation, though.

CPU TDP

The Ryzen 5 5600 has a default 65-watt TDP, which is refreshing to see, considering we now have processors consuming as much as 250 watts of power.

It also comes out of the box with an AMD wraith stealth stock cooler, so you won’t need to go spend any extra on an aftermarket cooler if you run it at stock values.

I should mention here that the Ryzen 5 5600 has two additional variants, the 5600X, and the 5600G. All three have similar prices and offer similar performance. You can find a more detailed comparison here.

Best CPU for Euro Truck Simulator 2 FAQs

Is Euro Truck Simulator 2 hard to run?

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is over 10 years old now, so it may not come as a surprise to see that it isn’t too difficult to run. Our best CPU of choice is a much more modern option which provides you with a fantastic processor for gaming overall with no problems with the trucking sim.

Can I use an APU for Euro Truck Simulator 2?

If you’re looking for an all-in-one option for Euro Truck Simulator 2, then there are great options in the Ryzen 5000 series such as the 5600G. This won’t provide the same performance as using a dedicated CPU & GPU, but it’s decent for Euro Truck on lower settings and resolutions.
