Acer have just released news of their latest gaming laptops in the Acer Predator range: the Predator Triton 500 SE Notebook and the Predator Helios 500 Notebook. As per their ‘Notebook’ designation these laptops are aiming to be slimline enough to compete with Razer’s best, whilst also coming with the latest most powerful 30 series GPUs.

Read below to find out more!

Acer Predator Triton 500 SE VS Acer Predator Helios 500

As per the 2020 releases of the Acer Predator, the Triton 500 Se and Helios 500 are quite similar in a lot of areas: both have the option of being specced with the latest RTX 3080 (laptop version) GPU as well as 11th Gen Intel Core i9 processors. Both can also come with up to a whopping 64GB of DDR4 3200 MHz RAM.

The main differences between the two are the options for screen type and size:

  • The Triton 500 SE can have either a 165Hz screen with a claimed 100% coverage in the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color space (perfect for visual editors and color-based workflows but for people who want to game on the side) or a 240Hz option with a 3ms response time. We assume both of these will be in FHD 1080p resolution. It is available in a 16″ size.
  • The Helios 500 can come with either a 1080p 360Hz display or a 4K 120Hz version, which comes with local dimming and is apparently comparable to the Vesa DisplayHDR 1,000. The available sizes will be 15.6″ or 17.3″.

Besides this, the Triton 500 SE is set to be more of a competitor to the Razer Blade series: 19.9mm in height (exactly the same as the Razer Blade Pro 2021) and with a (claimed) fantastically long battery life of 12 hours (far above the 5-6 hours you get in a Razer Blade, but we’ll have to see how much truth there is to this).

The Helios 500 is likely to be a bit on the chunkier side but with additional ports and sockets, including ‘one HDMI 2.1, one mini-DP 1.4, two Type-C Thunderbolt 4, three USB3.2 Gen2 ports that support offline charging, and one RJ45 port’. It will also have more room for storage space including’ a pair of PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 and one SATA HDD’.

Final Word

We will hopefully be getting our hands on both of these laptops for an in-depth test soon, to see how they measure up to the competition from the likes of Razer, Alienware, and offerings from lesser-known brands like Schenker for the title of best 30-series and best RTX 3080 gaming laptops.

As ever, more competition in the market can only be a good thing for you, the end consumer, so watch this space to see whether either of these laptops make it into our Best Gaming Laptop list for 2021, and for the best places and best deals as to where to buy your own.
