Friday Freebie 26th June: AER Memories Of Old & Stranger Things 3

This is the first of our new weekly feature, highlighting games that you can play for free over the weekend. Every Friday we’ll bring you news of a game that you can play for completely free, either in the form of a giveaway, a free weekend, or some other kind of way to play a game without coughing up any of your hard-earned cash.

If you’re not tempted by any of the deals from the Steam Summer Sale, perhaps one of these two games that are available for completely free might appeal to you.

Over on the Epic Game Store, they got a pair of freebies available now that might be worth taking a look at.

AER Memories Of Old

First, there’s AER Memories of Old. This is a game designed to let you realize the dream that Nelly Furtado won our hearts by singing about all those years ago, to truly become like a bird, and fly away.

The developers describe it thusly:

“Transform into a bird and fly to explore and experience a vibrant world of floating islands in the sky. Venture down into lost ancient ruins where each step leads you closer to the end of the world.

The gods of old are forgotten, lost in the events that shattered the world, leaving only fragments of islands in the sky. This mystic world of endless skies, colorful islands and ancient ruins is in danger of falling into darkness. As one of the last few shapeshifters, you are sent on a pilgrimage to the Land of Gods. Uncover the secrets that will help save reality itself.”

Stranger Things 3: The Game

Also free over on EGS right now is Stranger Things 3: The Game, an adaptation of the third season on Netflix’s popular nostalgia drenched fantasy horror series. They’ve made the interesting move of rather than trying to make a modern game based on the series, they’ve gone for a retro aesthetic that’s loosely aiming to recreate a game in style closer to the 80s setting of the show. Although to my eye it’s got perhaps more of a 90s style, with large sprites and lots of colors, but nitpicking the details is no fun.

You’ve got until July 2nd to claim these free games, but if you grab them now, they’re yours to keep.
