Newegg’s new ChatGPT-based PC builder needs a lot of work
It is a great idea, however, it looks as though the AI needs quite a bit of extra training before it can be considered a useful tool

Newegg recently introduced an AI-powered custom PC builder beta.
We need to stress that it is in beta before continuing, but the overall idea is a brilliant use of AI.. in theory.
The new application has the potential to be very useful to first-time buyers/ builders, with many having worries about picking the right components for the job and the dreaded compatibility questions.
The main issue at the moment after some use is that the application isn’t really useful at all, in fact, it is actually far less enlightening than just Googling queries or jumping on Reddit.

We are unaware of the limitations of the tools aside from training data but to see it struggle on what we deemed a basic query was surprising.
The AI customer builder actually recommended a better gaming PC for CSGO than it did for Cyberpunk 2077, 4K, Ray Tracing.
We thought that maybe it was struggling with the syntax of the question or was getting confused so we tried to simplify.
It did slightly better this time around, however, we can see a few customers that may end up a bit frustrated with their purchase over time.
When we first spotted the Newegg AI customer PC builder, we got a little excited, it sounded like a PCPartPicker killer. Maybe it will be someday, however, the depth of the AI’s knowledge seems a little light.
There also seem to be some limitations with the AI’s understanding of components and recommending the best for the job, which is understandable with the latest generation of hardware probably being a bit too much for the AI at this stage.
