Risk of Rain 2 Due for August Launch After 1.0 Update

Multiplayer roguelike game, Risk of Rain 2, is finally coming out of Early Access on Steam. The full launch of this game is due for release on August 11th so there’s not long to go.

Risk of Rain is a classic co-op roguelike title which brings an exciting new dimension to fans of the original. Each run is different, with randomized stages, bosses and enemies to take down. You can play solo or with up to four friends as you explore the world, discover new loot and fight your way through hordes of monsters.

Risk of Rain 2 was originally released in Early Access on Steam back in March 2019. The aim of this beta release was to build a community, create meaningful content and to get feedback from the community.

In a blog post announcing the launch date, the Hopoo Games Team said:

“Early Access has felt like a crazy ride through uncharted space, and we can’t thank you all enough for supporting us over the last year and a half. We’ve had great fun steering through Early Access together, and we will always be thankful for the patience and excitement our community has displayed. We will have more information on the Console launch of 1.0 in the future – but it should follow a very similar cadence to the previous console launches.”

So far, the reviews on Steam are ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ which is always good to see with an Early Access game.

The original plan was to release the full version this Spring but the developers delayed the release by a few months. This was after the community flagged up “quite a few areas of improvement we could work on”.

What’s New in This Latest Update?

Now that Hopoo is happy with the recent updates, it looks like version 1.0 will be coming soon. This update brings additional content to celebrate its launch day. If you’ve already had a go with this game, you’ll find brand new cut-scenes, a final stage with a new boss and meet a new survivor called The Captain. There will also be a range of brand new items to pick up such as the Molten Perforator and the Super Massive Leech.

The Captain is Risk of Rain’s tenth playable character which was chosen in a community vote by 60,000 members. The Captain comes with high-ranking authority and is armed with a shotgun-rifle that can stun targets as he charges onto the battlefield. He can also use probes and beacons which provide armor and healing zones for other players.

Risk of Rain 2 also features a brand new stage: The Moon. On the Moon, you’ll battle it out against lunar monsters and you’ll also find the game’s true final boss there as well.

Risk of Rain 2’s 1.0 version will be available on Steam for a higher price than in Early Access – jumping to $24.99. However, you can still pick it up at the moment for $19.99 at the Early Access price.
