Developer Crytek has announced that their upcoming release of Crysis Remastered will feature an all-new graphics mode, exclusive to the PC version, will all the extra graphical features and settings turned up to maximum, designed for extremely high-end PCs.

We’re still waiting for a proper in-depth look at Crysis remastered in action. Crytek has already shared the system requirements for their remaster of the notoriously demanding sandbox FPS, and shown us a bit of a tech demo for the updated version of their engine, but we’ve not yet seen any real in-game footage yet. The latest tease comes in the form of a new screenshot, of the game running in the all-new “Can it Run Crysis?” mode.

“Can it Run Crysis?” is a graphical setting, exclusive to the PC version of this new remaster, which Crytek says is “designed to demand every last bit of your hardware with unlimited settings”. This is perhaps then the setting that we’re going to see used to really push ultimate high-end systems to their limits.

Precise details of exactly what graphical features and settings this mode will enable are still not yet officially confirmed, nor do we know exactly what kind of high-end PC build you’ll need to be able to handle this setting, but we do at least have one new screenshot.

can it run crysis

Head over to the original tweet to see this screenshot in full resolution, although there’s still some compression going on, since this screenshot was only released via twitter.

I dunno, it looks nice enough, but certainly not a huge generational leap from what we’ve seen from similar games in the past. Even Crytek’s own Far Cry from 2004 had similarly pleasantly rendered tropical vistas, albeit less densely populated with vegetation:

far cry

Until we see the game up close and in motion, it’s going to be hard to gauge exactly how improved it is with this remaster. Crytek is playing their cards close to their chest, which is perhaps somewhat of a cause for concern, given it’s less than two weeks away from release, and we still didn’t see any proper gameplay footage. Perhaps they’re holding out for a blowout of footage in the days immediately proceeding release?

Crysis Remastered will be releasing exclusively on the Epic Games Store on September 18th.
