Steam for Chrome OS has been in the pipeline for some time now, but a 2022 release is looking more and more likely. As 9to5google reports, a list has been posted by Google of a list of Chromebooks that will initially support Steam, as follows:
- Volta – Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1H)
- Volet – Acer Chromebook 515
- Voxel – Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W)
- Delbin – ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500)
- Drobit – ASUS Chromebook CX9 (CX9400)
- Elemi – HP Pro c640 G2 Chromebook
- Lindar – Unknown/unreleased Chromebook from Lenovo
As you can see, there are quite a lot of Acer and ASUS models, but more will be added to this of course as time goes on. Further information about the minimum specifications that Chromebook Steam OS needs to run was listed below.
Steam Chrome OS system requirements
‘Can my Chromebook run Steam?’ is the question on many peoples’ lips, and unfortunately, many will end up being disappointed. Although we don’t have a full list of specs, the following information is available.
Steam Chromebook minimum system requirements
- CPU: Intel 11th Gen Core i5 / i7
- RAM: 7GB
Given that a large number of people are operating on budget-friendly Chromebooks with processors inferior to an Intel 11th gen CPU, be it i5 or i7 grade, this will frustrate many, particularly as there are plenty of games that can run off Steam with lower system requirements than this.
Other information regarding Steam on Chromebook
Nvidia is reportedly working with Google on a new series of dedicated GPUs for Chromebook, and even earlier we can expect to see some Intel 12th gen CPU equipped Chromebooks according to XDA.
