The Ryzen 9000 series was released pretty recently, with the 9800X3D being the crowning jewel. If only there was any availability for that, this would be a different article. Thankfully, the rest of the 9000 series is plentiful, leaving them ripe for a tasty Black Friday discount. This isn’t just any old discount; it’s the lowest these CPUs have ever been (in their admittedly short life). The theory of why AMD’s newest CPU lineup is relatively heavily discounted for its age is interesting.

The Ryzen 9000 series (as you may have heard) launched to underwhelming reviews and slaughtered the expectations of many. But there were a few things to blame for that (which have since been fixed, by the way). First off was the TDP of the 9600X and the 9700X, which has now had an optional patch to bring up to 105W instead of the measly 65W (good for efficiency, just not performance), and the issues regarding performance on Windows 11 (which, again, have been patched out, just make sure Windows is up to date).

The odds were stacked against AMD at launch, so the CPUs didn’t sell very well, and I know that these “issues” make them sound like bad products, but they aren’t at all; quite the opposite, actually, they’re very good. Back to the theory, AMD will likely look to counteract the less-than-desirable launch figures with an enticing Black Friday sale. The launch of the 9000 series saw a lot of gamers holding out for the 9800X3D, which is why so many are fighting to get their hands on this CPU (and for good reason, it’s fantastic).

Anyway, don’t let these hiccups fool you; these AM5 CPUs more than deserve a place in your new PC build. Let’s take a closer look at the CPUs.

The Ryzen 9 9900X is a powerhouse designed for heavy multitasking and demanding workloads, making it an excellent choice for professionals and enthusiasts. And it’s now available at a record-low price of $382.55 (down from $499 according to Camelcamelcamel). Its 12 cores and 24 threads easily handle tasks like video editing, 3D rendering, and other content creation workflows. Its base clock of 4.7 GHz and boost clock reaching up to 5.8 GHz provide exceptional single-threaded performance, which is crucial for applications like gaming that rely heavily on high clock speeds. This makes it a dual-purpose CPU that excels in professional and gaming environments.

The Ryzen 9 9900X ensures smooth performance for gamers, especially at higher resolutions like 1440p and 4K, where the GPU tends to be the limiting factor. The CPU’s robust multi-threading capabilities also make it ideal for streamers who must game and encode video simultaneously without noticeable lag. Its support for the latest DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 also enhances bandwidth, making it future-proof for high-speed storage and GPUs.

AMD Ryzen 7 9700X axed by 12%

The Ryzen 7 9700X balances high-performance gaming and moderate productivity tasks, making it an excellent choice for gamers who dabble in content creation. And you can now snag this for a record-low price of $317.57, down from $359, says Camelcamelcamel. Featuring 8 cores and 16 threads, this CPU offers sufficient headroom for multitasking, such as gaming while running background tasks or light video editing. Its high base and boost clocks ensure it performs well in modern AAA games, especially at 1440p or 4K, where GPU bottlenecks are more common.

This processor is also suited for creative professionals who don’t require the extreme core counts of the Ryzen 9. Tasks like photo editing, moderate video rendering, or compiling code are handled efficiently. It’s an energy-efficient choice with a TDP that balances performance and heat output, making it ideal for gamers and creators looking for a powerful yet practical system.

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, now under $250

The Ryzen 5 9600X is ideal for mid-range gaming and general-purpose computing. With 6 cores and 12 threads, this CPU is designed for budget-conscious gamers who want excellent performance at 1080p or 1440p resolutions. Its base clock of 4.6 GHz and boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz ensure it can handle modern games smoothly, especially when paired with a capable GPU. This makes it a great fit for esports titles or less demanding AAA games where frame rates matter more than resolution. The best part is this CPU is at a record-low price of $246.99, down from $279.99 says Camelcamelcamel.

Beyond gaming, the Ryzen 5 9600X is sufficient for browsing, office work, and light productivity. It’s also a good entry-level choice for creators dabbling in photo editing or video rendering. However, its performance in these areas will be more limited than the Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9. Its affordability and efficiency make it a go-to choice for those building mid-tier systems without sacrificing gaming performance.

These CPUs cater to distinct audiences: the Ryzen 9 9900X for power users handling heavy workloads, the Ryzen 7 9700X for gamers and versatile creators, and the Ryzen 5 9600X for budget-oriented gamers and general-purpose users. Each balances performance and price, tailored to different needs and budgets. All of these CPUs are discounted by over 10% this Black Friday.
