Releasing in 2024, Arise of Awakener is a continued push by Chinese publishers and developers to bring high-quality gaming experiences that reach a wider audience.
Arise of Awakener is being developed by Chinese studio Taner Games and published by Gamera Game, who has made a significant impact on Steam since releasing various Chinese indie games onto the platform, including the quite excellent Dyson Sphere Program.

The game, with its terrible title, looks to be in the same leagues as the upcoming Black Myth: Wukong, a semi-hyper realistic take on a fantasy setting and using the Unreal 5 Engine.
In the trailer, it looked like a Dragon’s Dogma-esque game, an exploratory and free-roaming game where you take quests, but also seems to be incorporating a lot of basics included with the Unreal engine, with magic taking on a third-person-shooter look, which is perfect in my books.
It really does look like the Unreal 5 engine is a great boon for smaller teams across the world, as Arise of Awakener looks gorgeous. The meaty combat, combined with the semi-generic, but through a foreign lens European medieval style is perfect and I can’t wait to see more of it over the next couple of years.
While it looks thrilling, it very clearly is in an early stage at the moment, with a long way to go. There’s no pin-point release date and with COVID-19 raging on, I’m going to suspect we might not see this way in 2024, as the company will presumably have to deal with the Chinese government, who can spates of not approving anything, which could also factor into the large breadth of time between announcement and intended release date.
Arise of Awakener releases on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC (presumably on Steam) in 2024. I have my doubts that it’ll see a PS4 release, mostly down to the console being phased out fairly quickly by Sony.
