Intel Core Ultra vs AMD Ryzen mobile CPUs vs previous gen Intel models – how do they measure up performance wise? The first leaked benchmarks of the upcoming Intel 14th gen laptop CPUs have been trickling out ahead of the launch event on the 14th of December. As ever, get your sodium chloride out and sprinkle it all about, because a leak does not constitute confirmed information; whilst the below data appears to be fairly plausible based on what Intel have told us, a degree of scepticism should be maintained.
Read below for the details and make sure to watch the big reveal of these new chips for what we hope will be official performance benchmarks.
Intel Core Ultra 5 125H vs AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS benchmarks (leaked)
As reported by WCCFtech, there have apparently been leaks of one of the new Intel Core range against both a Ryzen processor from the Phoenix line, and an Intel 13th gen i5 processor. The original source of these is supposedly from Lenovo and was leaked via user Tieba Baidu on Weibo, the Chinese social media site.
The leaks provides us with the scores of how the upcoming Intel Core Ultra 5 125H performed in Cinebench, TimeSpy, and 3D Mark compared to the previous gen Intel Core i5-13500H and the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS. They were all tested once with the same power draw – specifically 65W TDP – to make the comparison as fair as possible, and then the results for the Core Ultra CPU were also shown at 28W TDP.
You can see the results in the table below, but in summary, the new Core Ultra 5 125H performed only marginally better than the Intel Core i5-13500H in CPU tasks (as measured by Cinebench), and was beaten by the Ryzen 7 7840HS in multi-core tests. This isn’t really surprising considering that Intel have stated the CPU performance uplift over the 13th gen will be minimal.
In the GPU tests however, specifically 3DMark and Time Spy, the uplift of the new chips with the Arc Xe-LPG 7-Core iGPU was very notable. It was particularly high in Time Spy, which more fully utilises DX12 in its testing, beating the Ryzen CPU (with Radeon 780M iGPU) by 18%.
Benchmark software | Ryzen 7 7840HS (65W) | Core i5-13500H (65W) | Core Ultra 5 125H (65W) | Core Ultra 5 125H (28W) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cinebench R15 (MC) | 2308 | 2179 | 2266 | 1916 |
Cinebench R20 (MC) | 6309 | 5628 | 5690 | 4373 |
Cinebench R23 (SC) | 1800 | 1805 | 1689 | 1630 |
Cinebench R23 (MC) | 16473 | 14264 | 14771 | 12703 |
3DMark Time Spy | 3007 | 1530 | 3548 | 3077 |
3DMark Fire Strike | 8543 | 5303 | 9095 | 8432 |
Intel Core Ultra 7 155H vs AMD Z1 Extreme benchmarks (leaked)
Leaker HXL has posted results that apparently show Time Spy scores for the Intel Core 7 Ultra 155H. PC Gamer has taken the liberty of putting these up against the scores achieved by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, as equipped by the ASUS ROG Ally. In summary, the Z1 Extreme performed around 33% better in CPU scenarios, but the integrated graphics performance was around 8% better for the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H.

Intel Core Ultra vs AMD Ryzen CPU models: Final Word
Based on what we’ve seen so far, the Intel Core Ultra range probably won’t be impressing much in CPU scenarios, but the iGPU performance shows potential. It all depends on how the models carrying these chips are priced. Keep an eye on our main Intel 14th gen laptop page for more updates on the range.
