Samsung’s Odyssey gaming monitor lineup is arguably one of the most impressive the market has to offer, showcasing a variety of panels that all come equipped with high-end performance specifications.
With that in mind, Samsung has now officially expanded the Odyssey lineup – bringing flat screen variants to the previously curved-only monitor lineup. The monitors will be available to the global market from June 21, 2021 – providing gamers with a more optimized and esports-friendly visual experience.
Odyssey 2021 Lineup To Include Flat Panel Variants
The original Odyssey curved gaming monitor range was launched back in 2020, headed by the flagship G9 – a 49-inch 1000R curved panel that also offered a 240hz refresh rate. Since then, Samsung has released flat variants of the smaller panels within the Odyssey lineup. The new lineup will deliver what Samsung is coining as ‘hyper-real’ picture quality, a high level of responsiveness, tailored ergonomics, and intuitive usability.
This, alongside some original Odyssey 2020 features, should spark new life into the already popular Odyssey gaming monitor lineup. In a news post, Samsung says ‘Together with these latest features, gaming enthusiasts can enjoy real-world colors, pinpoint accuracy and sharp response speeds for their PC and console gaming entertainment devices.’ – potentially suggesting HDMI 2.1 support on its way.
Odyssey 2021 Gaming Monitor Series
So, what monitors in the series will be receiving a juicy update? As per the news post from Samsung, we can expect flat variants of the Odyssey G3, G5, and G7 – with sizes ranging from 24-28 inches.
As far as specifications go, here’s what we can expect from the new monitor lineup:
Odyssey G7 28″ (Model: G28AG70):
The G7 looks to be the largest of the new Odyssey flat-screen monitors, coming equipped with a 28″ 3840 x 2160 4K screen resolution. It will offer an IPS panel that supports a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms GTG response time. Alongside VRR support for both NVIDIA (G-Sync compatible certified) and AMD (FreeSync Premium Pro) systems, the G7 will also offer HDMI 2.1 support as well – allowing next-gen console gamers the freedom to enjoy 4K gaming at 120hz.
The G7 will also support the entry-level HDR certification (HDR400) and will showcase a 400 nit brightness when at 100%. A contrast ratio of 1000:1, 178/178 viewing angles, and 90% DCI-P3 coverage can all be expected as well.
Inputs include 1 x DisplayPort 1.4, 2 x HDMI 2.1 connections, and a selection of USB 3.0 ports as well.
Odyssey G5 27″ (Model: G27AG50):
The G5 is the 1440p variant in this collection, offering up an IPS panel that showcases a 165Hz refresh rate. This model, like the G7, also boasts a 1ms GTG response time and adaptive-sync VRR for both G-Sync and FreeSync systems. The G5 will also feature a fully ergonomic stand (something the 2020 variant did not offer), 1000:1 contrast ratio, 350 nits of brightness, and 178/178 viewing angles.
Colors should be strong on the G5, offering up 99% sRGB color coverage and IPS color accuracy. Inputs will include a DisplayPort 1.2, 1 x HDMI 2.0, and a 3.5mm audio jack too.
Odyssey G3 24″ & 27″ (Model: G30A):
Lastly, we have the Odyssey G3 – a budget option for the 1080p competitive gamers out there. This monitor will tailor itself towards the budget-restricted individuals, offering a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution, 1ms MPRT and 144Hz refresh rate. Adaptive sync will be available within the G3 via FreeSync Premium certification – but not NVIDIA. Inputs include 1 x DisplayPort 1.2, 1 x HDMI 1.4, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The G3 will also come in 27/24″ variants.
