*LATEST* As reported by The Verge, MSN, and others, Microsoft sent the following invitation out to members of the media: ‘Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 21, 2023, for a special Microsoft event’. It’s strongly believed by these media outlets that this will be when we’ll get the first look at the new Surface tablet devices, including the Microsoft Surface Go 4, which would likely mean their release will follow on not much longer after that!

Surface Go 4 release window estimate

We don’t have a definitive Surface Go 4 release window at this current time, although there have been rumors circulating of a likely time window.

Originally the device was thought to be coming out in April 2023, but issues at Microsoft with staff layoffs, plus general economic uncertainty, have reportedly pushed back the released to Q3-Q4 2023. This would tie in with the upcoming Special Event on September 21st being the likely reveal of the new Surface Go.

We, therefore, expect the Surface Go 4 release date to land at some point in October, following its unveiling on the 21st of Sept, but this is just a prediction and could prove to be incorrect.

The previous Surface Go release dates don’t give us much to go off, other than that the preceding models have either come out in Spring or Autumn/Falls periods.

Surface Go 4 specs (rumored)

It’s expected that the Surface Go 4 ARM variant will have better battery life, plus 5G capability, though likely with weaker processing power than the Intel variant. The Snapdragon 7c SoC CPU that we think the ARM version is likely to come with will give it processing power roughly equivalent to, or slightly better than the Surface Go 3 with Intel CPU, albeit with the additional benefits mentioned.

The Intel version will however also have greater compatibility with certain software that does not yet properly support ARM CPUs (e.g. the Adobe creative suite, Zoom, Slack, etc.). According to Zac Bowden of WindowsCentral, the Intel chipset is most likely to be the N200.

Surface Go 4 price (prediction)

We don’t yet have any official information on the Surface Go 4 price, however, we can make an educated estimation based on the previous model.

The Surface Go 3 starting MSRP was $399/£369, which is the same dollar price as the previous Surface Go 2 and Surface Go. So it’s possible the Go 4 will start a the same price point.

However, the last variant was released three years ago (before recent inflation) so it seems possible that Microsoft will raise the price by an additional $50, which is what we’ve seen on similar devices.

Our prediction, therefore, is a starting Surface Go 4 price of around $399-$449.
