Worms Rumble Announced with Real-Time Combat

To celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary, Team 17 has just announced a brand new Worms game. This was initially teased back in March so it’s great to finally get confirmation and an official announcement.

Worms Rumble is a real-time combat title which allows up to 32 players to fight to the death in a “Wormageddon”.

Take a look at the new announcement trailer below for a sneak peek at what’s to come:

Real-Time Gameplay and Fan-Favourite Weapons

For the first time in the Worms series, every round you’ll play will be in real-time. There’s no turn-based combat here, you’ll need to react in real-time to enemy fire which adds a new dimension to the series.

Players will hurl themselves around colourful, partly destructible arenas, wielding classic weapons such as the fan-favourite, the bazooka. Other favourites are returning as well as a few new weapons. You’ll get a choice of Shotguns, Sheep, Holy Hand Grenades and Banana Bombs to play around with.

Unlike previous titles which only allowed players to crawl or drop from platforms, you’ll be able to dodge, roll and wall jump to chase down enemies or escape enemy fire.

You’ll be able to customise your worm to your heart’s content so you can wade onto the battlefield in style. Grab a funky pair of sunglasses, a Sheriff’s hat or a dinosaur costume to complete your worm’s look. Further customisation options can be unlocked when you earn XP or use the in-game currency.

Last Worm Standing

Fans of the series will be pleased to know that there is a battle royale mode to get stuck into. In fact, there are three modes to choose from which can be played solo or with a squad. There’s the classic Deathmatch mode and the battle royale Last Worm Standing or Last Squad Standing mode.

If you want to partner up with someone on a different platform, this game will also have cross-play available.

Events and Challenges

Team 17 say they’re planning seasonal events, daily challenges and community collaborations which will give players extra XP. This can be used to unlock rewards such as outfits, accessories, emotes or weapon skins.

Release Date and Platforms

Worms Rumble will be released on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and also PlayStation 5 sometime in 2020.

While there isn’t a firm release date, you may get the chance to test it out beforehand. There is currently a closed beta scheduled for July 15th at 4 AM PT which runs until July 20th at midnight. You can sign up to get an invite to the beta launch here.

Team 17 also promises that once this game is released, it will receive ongoing content updates including new arenas, new customisation items for your worms and much more.
