1. MSI Afterburner
For many, MSI Afterburner is a system staple. This versatile tool allows you to monitor your PC’s internal hardware unlike many other applications out there – giving you full access to benchmark your entire system.
Alongside monitoring your system’s hardware, users of MSI Afterburner will also be able to utilize the fan control options. This is a customizable fan controller which allows you to alter the speed based on the temperature of your hardware.
MSI’s fan control tool is extremely easy to use, making it one of our personal favorites. Furthermore, with the ability to alter a whole host of other features as well, Afterburner is one of our best systems tools overall.
2. SpeedFan
Next up we have SpeedFan – one of the oldest fan controller applications in this guide. It dates back to around the same time Windows 9x was around and isn’t short of a few unique tricks.
At the heart of this application, users will be able to control fan speeds – as per their choice. However, further to that, users will also be able to monitor their fan’s voltages and temperatures – allowing perfect optimization.
That’s not all, with its ability to access both digital temperature sensors and S.M.A.R.T info, you’ll also be able to monitor other internal system hardware.
Like MSI Afterburner, using SpeedFan couldn’t be simpler. Simply open up the fan speed tool and begin to manually input the fan’s speed as per your requirements. You’ll have to listen out to see which fan you’re controlling, but once you’ve figured it out, it couldn’t be easier.
3. EasyTune 5
As is the case with most of the applications in this guide, EasyTune 5 is much more than just fan control software. This program also has a whole host of additional features which make it a much more versatile package.
That being said, we’re only here for one feature really – and that’s the fan controller. EasyTune calls it Smart-Fan control – and it gives you complete access to your CPU cooler’s fan.
EasyTune offers an ‘easy mode’ for less technically savvy folk – a feature not many others in this guide can claim. That said, controlling your fans with this software is fairly straightforward, nonetheless. Simply match the CPU cooler’s fan speed to the temperature of your choosing, and away you go. Just remember though, try not to set your fan curve too low – as excess heat on this component could lead to a drop in system performance and hardware degradation.
EasyTune also helps you overclock your CPU via two unique features, aptly named CPU Intelligent Accelerator (C.I.A) and Memory Intelligent Booster 2.
4. Argus Monitor
For those that just want a lightweight fan control software, Argus monitor is probably exactly what you’re looking for. Not only does it offer a small memory footprint, but it also offers comprehensive control over the speed at which your fans operate – not to mention monitoring the temperature of your CPU, hard drives, and SSDs.
Unlike some of the applications in this guide, Argus Monitor actually supported modern-day Nvidia and AMD GPUs – particularly useful if you’re into the art of gaming. Furthermore, it’ll also help you identify any early signs of HDD or SSD failure. Whilst it isn’t 100% accurate, it still provides more than enough accuracy for you to at least check your hardware (70% is stated).
With an extremely easy-to-use interface, alongside its small memory demand, this tool definitely allows your PC to run smoothly when you need it most. The only downside to this great application is that it’s only free for the first 30 days. After that, you’ll have to purchase it.
