EVGA RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 Black

Cheaper cooling solution
Plenty of thermal capacity
12 heat pipes and vapor chamber for good heat transfer
Cheaper design not suitable for everyone
Now one card, with a higher price, you may be looking to equivalent GPUs
Now with the Ada generation of graphics cards in full swing of release, there are some choices to consider. And the RTX 4080 is a divisive choice, so we look at what GPU is equivalent to the 4080.
As the second card released in the Nvidia generation, there was a lot of debate about it. As it launched with an MSRP of $1,199 USD, it was a massive increase over the last-gen model of the RTX 3080.
So although it was the 30 series popular card, now it’s not so much. With a much higher price, the RTX 4090 might even be a better choice than it for a bit higher price. But even then you might in fact want to consider the alternatives.
So the closest equivalent card to the RTX 4080, is the RX 7900 XTX. The AMD Radeon card is from the new RDNA 3 family and is the flagship card. However, it does not reach the potential of the 4090.
Core Clock Speed
1,855 MHz base, 2,455 MHz game, 2,615 MHz boost
Stream processors
6,144
Memory Size
24GB GDDR6
Dimensions
344 x 128 x 57mm
PSU Required
850W
TBP
355W
This means it pairs up well against the 4080. Especially with a lower MSRP, it is a much more appealing choice of graphics card especially as the gaming performance level is on par or better.
Where AMD might falter though is the compute performance in rendering and any ray tracing tasks. So those might of consideration for you if you particularly care about those features.
Now for slightly lower performance but also a lower price, there are a couple of options as well. The RX 7900 XT is also an AMD card that is a bit worse value than its bigger brother.
So another good option to go for is the RTX 3090 Ti. As the flagship of the Ampere cards, it has a great performance factor. And with a price drop at the end of its life span, it has an even better value proposition.
Cheaper cooling solution
Plenty of thermal capacity
12 heat pipes and vapor chamber for good heat transfer
Cheaper design not suitable for everyone
Overclocked model to get you the most out of your GPU
Compact and effective Windforce cooling system
A more expensive option to pick from
It is a greatly capable card with many features of the RTX family you may desire. Although the drawback from Ada will be the lack of DLSS 3 support without a frame generator. But even the raw power should give you plenty of performance anyway or using standard DLSS too.
For the closest performance to the 4080, the RX 7900 XTX is a good alternative. As the option from alternative, it is a great choice with the ability to perform great on this option. Whilst if you’re looking back at older gen and cheaper then the RTX 3090 Ti is as close as you’re going to get. But that is without the benefits generationally and some features missing.
