For integrated graphics, Vega 8 is a respectable option, but neither AMD nor Nvidia currently produces cards in that category. To locate a dedicated card that is comparable to Vega 8, you must search back a lot of years. Continue reading if you want to see more about the history of Vega 8, as well as some great alternatives if you want to find something close to equivalent which is much more up-to-date.

A Radeon R7 450, which was only offered in pre-built PCs, or an Nvidia GT 740 are both quite close. Even back then, these were just straightforward display adapters with multiple monitor support; they weren’t gaming cards. However, we will now go into greater detail about both of these cards that were mentioned above.

On June 30, 2016, AMD unveiled the Radeon R7 450 OEM, a graphics card. The card supports DirectX 12. It was created using a 28 nm manufacturing process and is based on the Cape Verde PRO2 graphics processor. Although it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_1, which may cause issues with more recent DirectX 12 games.

A typical-sized chip, the Cape Verde graphics processor has 1,500 million transistors and a die area of 123 mm². AMD has blocked several shading units on the Radeon R7 450 OEM in order to attain the product’s goal shader count, unlike the fully unlocked Radeon HD 7770 GHz, which uses the same GPU but has all 640 shaders activated.

On the other hand, NVIDIA released the GeForce GT 740 as an entry-level graphics card on May 29, 2014. The card supports DirectX 12. It was created using a 28 nm manufacturing process and is based on the GK107 graphics processor in its GK107-425-A2 form. Despite supporting DirectX 12, its feature level is only 11_0, the same as R7 450.

Which might cause issues with more recent DirectX 12 games. The GK107 graphics processor has 1,270 million transistors and a die area of 118 mm², making it a chip of ordinary size. 32 texture mapping units, 16 ROPs, and 384 shading units are included.

The GeForce GT 740 and 1,024 MB GDDR5 VRAM from NVIDIA are coupled through a 128-bit memory interface. Memory is running at 993 MHz, and the GPU is functioning at 1253 MHz (5 Gbps effective).

Vega 8 alternatives

Integrated graphics aren’t the best if you’re looking for some serious use. So if you want to upgrade the selection there are some alternatives to consider. These are more modern and dedicated cards that will be more available.

For entry-level graphics, there is the 1050 Ti, or 1650. These are both basic options and aren’t really there for intensive gaming. not much beyond 1080p potentially not even 60.

Further pushing that to something a bit newer as well, the RX 6500 XT from AMD or RTX 3050 from Nvidia gives a good entry-level into something with more gaming potential.

GPU equivalent to Vega 8 FAQs

What GPU is equivalent to Vega 8?

The most direct comparison to Vega 8 is an R7 450 or GT 740. But those are quite an older choice to go for. So something newer is the GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1650. But even those are a bit older and tougher so for a low-end option, the RX 6500 XT and RTX 3050 are the best equivalents. But as dedicated cards, they will always be a step above the integrated graphics.
